Ah, it was just one of those high and mighty statements.

Reading isn't your strong suit, is it? I gave an opinion that is clearly about me and how I feel and what I prefer, and you take it as some sort of personal affront. It in no way affects me if you enjoy the opposite of what I enjoy. But, I'm not sure you should be labeling anyone high and mighty.

The atmosphere is electric

It's exciting and fun to me. But I like having fun. To each his own

It can be fun, but I admit I get tired of walking, hate crowds, and hate waiting forever to use a disgusting bathroom.

If you have a friend on he parade route, it's like a tailgate party, but better, because you have a place to go to the bathroom and crash afterwards.

I kinda hate on the idea of going to parades when thinking about going or on the way getting there, but once I'm in place kicking back with drinks with friends laughing with that cool feeling of a huge party going on all around and endless sights I'm glad I went.

I love walking & people watching. Doesn't get any better. The music, food & atmosphere is the perfect back drop

I lived there and experienced it many times and realize there are two type of people who frequent Mardi Gras.

The first is the person who wants to get trashed and use those parades as an exuse to act an arse in public. Almost to embrace a sort of trashiness.

The second is almost the exact opposite. It's the person who wants to take their kid to parades. Good cheap family entertainment. Also the one who takes going to a ball as a date night each year. Not necessarily a reason to get trashed but just dress nice and spend a night out with a loved one.

Unfortunately, I think there is more of the first one than the second.

Those things don't bother me when I'm drinking beer and having fun

Well the beer makes waiting for the bathroom less than pleasurable

I'm with you. I've never understood the appeal. And the wastefulness of buying a bunch of plastic garbage to throw to people who pretend it's valuable is mind-boggling.

I've known friends who have thrown beads from floats in N.O. and it can get pretty expensive depending on your throws. I use to go many years ago but it just doesn't have the appeal now. If you enjoy crowds, drunks, fights, parking problems, territory claims, etc. etc. I guess it's your cup of tea,,,I wonder why Disney World is flooded with people from Louisiana during this time of the year!

There's really not a whole lot to explain. You either like it or you don't. I've been around mardi gras my whole life since I grew up in New Orleans area, so I enjoy and look forward to it every year. I also started riding a few years ago, which makes it even more enjoyable.

My significant other, on the other hand, is from Baton Rouge, and hates it, and doesn't get the appeal of it. She'll tolerate it every year, but is not a fan of it at all.

I like riding in the parade. To me, that's when you can really take it all in on how much people are enjoying themselves.

as far as going to the parade as part of the crowd, meh, it was better when I was a kid.

there is really only one other day besides the day I ride that I enjoy. And it isn't Fat Tuesday.
