Empower school administrators to kick out kids with behavioral issues without fear of losing funding. Repeat offender kids will be forced into online virtual academy school only, Chromebook (security deposit) and monthly stipend for internet provided. Acknowledge that some kids will have to be left behind for public education to flourish. Fully fund pre-k 4 programs for all kids to get a head start. Stop teaching a curriculum that revolves around kids passing a standardized test. End the experiment of inclusive classrooms (separate special education kids that are disruptive).

Honestly these are good ideas but I do have a few counter points:

1)If a kid is problematic in traditional classrooms, what makes you think they will participate in virtual school?

2) What do you do with the kids that are kicked out?

3) I'd incorporate some sort of trade school into the public schools. If a kid isn't gonna go to college then why not give him some schooling on being a plumber or mechanic or whatever trade they choose so they can enter the workforce? I think part of the issue is these kids don't see a point of learning algebra because wtf are they gonna do with it? Now learning how to install and fix an HVAC could be seen as useful.

Poster above says it goes away at $150k. If that is so, I’m taking a pay cut.

Too Easy to get around income limits. Funnel income into LLC’s and S Corps, and pay yourself a meager income under the income limits to get your children eligible, while you drive around in a Mercedes and live in a mansion owned by the LLC.

Why are yall acting like LA is the first and only state to pass school choice. They would be the 13th with multiple more to come in the next year or two and this has been going on for 5 years

BC kids are morons that dont understand you arent learning it to use the Algebra necessarily.

You have to learn to think but I doubt teachers teach that.

Whats the point? What is the point of the entire program? To make everyone feel warm and fuzzy that they can go to any school they choose?

What happened to geo boundaries? Gone
Now its go where you want.
Next the government is making private school curriculum decisions.

Yes. Even Catholic school kids are morons and wouldn't take school seriously if they didn't have parents that made them.

But I don't think offering trade schooling in HS is a bad idea if it gets kids to learn a productive way to make money after they graduate.

I haven’t read the entire thread but this is my take in your questions

This move isn’t to help the troubled kid but rather to help everyone else in the class by removing the trouble kid.

2) What do you do with the kids that are kicked out?

This is an interesting topic. The kids getting kicked out of multiple schools essentially need military school-like discipline and structure. Would the state be amendable to removing kids from homes and enrolling them in a boarding school?

100%. Stop rewarding public schools for % of kids going to college and reward them for development of students.

I think the point is 2 fold:

1) to let families that send their kids to private schools actually benefit from the taxes we pay that currently only goes to public schools that we don't use.

2) To give families that would like to send their kids to private school but can't afford it an opportunity to do so.

I realize that these points are altruistic and theoretical but that is the point of this plan. I understand that shitty people will raise tuition and find other ways to corrupt the system but its purpose is the above.

This is a real issue and if they want this program to work as intended, it can't come with many strings attached.

The option should be there when they enter. We need more skilled labor and less BS sociology degrees.

I think if LA pushed a trade program, and I mean really pushed it, that would gain some traction. The guys and gals would be learning real life skills that would be useful for their lifetime.

Nobody is saying do away with basic math and sciences like algebra and physical science. What people are saying is stop pushing kids into trigonometry, physics, and advanced English literature.

If a kid is not showing interest in the college route by 15, put them on the track to have skills such as the ones mentioned above. Give them the base education, but don’t push them to ACT prep

This is very reasonable.

Many people dont want desk jobs when they are done with schooling.

Most shouldn’t. Desk jobs will be replaced by AI quickly.
