Solve this problem: how much did the owner lose?

A thief walks into the store and steals $100 from the register without the owners knowledge.
The thief then buys $70 dollars worth of goods, hands the owner the $100 dollars, and the owner gives him $30 in change.
The orginal riddle asks how much CASH does the owner lose making it a trick question imo. The debate centers on how much cash versus how much VALUE the owner lost.
What says the OT?

Nothing, because the owner has the thief on tape.
After the thief leaves the owner follows him home and notes where he lives.
Later that night, the owner breaks into the thiefs house, ties the thief to his bed, and proceeds to remove everything of value from the house.
Once he is finished, he pours gasoline on the bed and lights a candle, placing it on the thief’s stomach. “Be careful,” the store owner tells him, “you wouldn’t want anything to get caught.”
Then he leaves with all the loot. As he drives away he can hear the pained screams of the thief as the bed catches.
The next day the thief’s goods are for sale at the store...and the owner sees another person stealing...

Depends on his Cogs and the sales tax rate, if the items are taxable.

$100
No reported loss on the sold item.

Cash lost: $30
Value lost: $30 + $70 worth = $100
Value lost: $30 + $70 worth = $100

Then he skins him and turns his flesh into beef jerky. Little packages of jerky sell for like $5 each. The owner will make a hefty profit from his $100 by the time he sells all that jerky.

1. Lost $100 cash = $100 value
2. Gained $70 cash - Lost $70 in goods = Net even value
3. Lost $30 cash = $30 value
$100 + $0 + $30 = $130
2. Gained $70 cash - Lost $70 in goods = Net even value
3. Lost $30 cash = $30 value
$100 + $0 + $30 = $130

No. He was giving back $30 of the dollars already stolen... not an additional $30.

Actual answer
1. Owner lost 100 dollars
2. Received 100 dollars, lost 70 dollars in goods
3. So still -70 dollars in value to the owner
4. Gave 30 dollars change
= 100 value
Total 100 dollars in value with $30 being cash
