and go 100% clean.

I did this two years ago, after being a functional alcoholic for 20 years, I feel better than I have in a long time and have lost 75 lbs.

That's because a bunch of people drink, do drugs, smoke and eat too much. If not, the average lifespan would be 85 or 90.

How do you explain Europe then? I contribute it to their healthier food because they drink and smoke more than Americans. Thank God for RFK trying to improve our food.

I don't really care for the bold phrase. If you don't mind, don't use that anymore.

Thank you. Have a happy New years Eve.

I quit drinking a little over 2 years ago. It is going great. I am the healthiest and feel the best I have ever felt in my adult life, so I would say it is going great.

It is a big social adjustment, as I lost some of my relationships I had in sobriety, however it shows you that those relationships were based on alcohol and not the fact that the person cared about me as a person. Still worth it, you just meet new people and find other hobbies/activities to fulfill you.

best decision I ever made back on 12/27/87 .... just completed 38 yrs of sobriety living 1 day at a time. Go to meetings, find a support group, quit hanging around loser friends, and do whatever you have to do to stay sober TODAY

I don't mind it, and I actually enjoy seeing people decide to stop drinking. Heavy or consistent drinking only leads to health problems down the road and I come from a family that's the poster child for that. I'm the only one in my family who doesn't drink heavily and guess what - other than a genetic cardiac issue I'm the only one who doesn't have health problems. No coincidence there.

I've even watched my brother-in-law literally drink himself into oblivion for years until he died a lonely and miserable death in a hospital bed.

frick all that.

As for LCA131, I very seldomly take your opinions seriously.

So you’re still chemically dependent, you just narrowed it down to one chemical? You should work on intellectual honesty next.

Well damn, I was considering going sober for 2026 but this is a very compelling argument.

OP said drugs and alcohol aren’t a problem for him though

This. Do it or don’t. But why you feel the need to announce it seems like you’ve got a big problem. Either with alcohol or insecurity. Same as all the other ones who need to witness as to how wonderful sobriety is when nobody asked for their testimonials.

I was just saying how alcohol does no good for the body so I support his decision to stop. It doesn't have to be a problem for it to still be a positive to stop.

That's very hurtful and obtuse on your part. My opinions are generally correct close to 50% of the time.

Nevertheless, I'll wish you happy New Year's Eve for a 2nd time.

I'm sorry to hurt your feelings. I'll try to not be so obtuse going forward. Generally, I'm very seldomly obtusant.

I've never touched a drug in my life, and I don't drink. Straight edge.

I'll have some drinks from time to time but I can say with 100% honesty that I've never touched a single illegal drug in my entire 40 years. Not even the devils lettuce.

Yeah it’s been like 1.75 years and it’s going well enough. I still have drug dreams constantly but I dunno hopefully they’ll fade with time.
