Part of the problem is their joints hurt and can't reach anything anymore. Plus, they easily lose balance, so they are more or less forced to do a substandard job of scrubbing.
Rather than some fancy soap, buy them an exfoliating brush. Wal-mart sells them with a loofah on one side and a scrub brush on the other.

It’s a smell that is excreted and gets in your clothes. It’s not lack of washing.

I smell pet odors on old people more than I do younger folks, especially cat smells.
They probably tend to let their pets lay on them and around them more and then you combine that with their reduced ability to clean themselves and their clothes as already mentioned.
Some are practically a walking litter box.

Coal tar was used for ages for dandruff, best product, and actually worked.

If you want to smell like an old man
Use Kirk's Castle soap in the shower
Use Bay Rum as aftershave
"Grannies, hang onto your panties"

All body odors get into clothes. Frequent bathing and exfoliation is essential to managing unpleasant odors and skin health.

Guaranteed to smell like paw paw

Or maybe it's because old folks wear coats around the house in the summer months? PS...I'm not in that number btw

Can you use it behind your knees and above your crack?

The old person smell is an oil that sticks to the clothes and skin more than normal stank

I have a small bucket in my shower. I mix Dawn4x dishwashing detergent, bleach and water in it. Scrub with a Lowe’s terry cloth shop rag and finish off with Dial soap.
I’m 68 and don’t stink.

I think it's the clothes as well.
It’s the moth balls, but we really shouldn’t hate a man because his balls shrunk.

Bay Rum
I've had a solid bay rum fragrance and this since I was in my early 20s
The girlfriends could always take it or leave it. When meeting their family for the first time, their mothers or grandmothers always commented on it after the first hug.
It's not nearly as endearing as you think to have milfs comment... "You smell like my Daddy", and be completely unable to give the response that statement deserves

It looks like the old Dial on steroids. Splash on some Brut or British Sterling and they’ll be fighting it out for air superiority.

I just recently heard about old people smell. I really think it is a result of everything suggested in the thread so far. When you get really imoble, it is a monumental task to bathe…and as a result often people bathe every other day or so if they stay inside all day. They find it hard to reach the center of their back, etc.
That said, I picked up some of that persimmon soap recently, and have to admit thst it does smell damn good!

Never heard of it until this thread...
I use Prequel products.
Most soaps are just fillers and perfume.

Your loss is my gain!
Grannies are my target market.

That is where nurses and sponge baths come in.
