A bit off topic, but I spent a couple of months in New York helping with the aftermath of 9/11. I grew up in Alabama, now live in Georgia, and still speak with a pretty strong southern accent.
On my off hours, I frequented a few bars, and it was always the same thing:
"Hey yous guys, get a load of the way he tawwks."
Great people there. They just got a kick out of hearing me talk.

My hour drive from the office near Princeton NJ took me 3.5 yesterday. I left the office a little before 2 after meetings.
I saw not one plow truck the entire time. The state really dropped the ball on this snow event. It's not like they didn't know it was coming but it seemed to drop more snow and wet heavy snow which caused a lot of the problems. Probably saw at least 20 cars off the road on the drive home

I always laughed at southerners freaking out over a tiny dip below 32 until I drove over one bridge in BR during college when it was below freezing. Car instantly spun out, yeah it rarely happens so y’all arent used to it but we winter prep roads up here so that black ice that wrecks havoc is much les common.

Yankees cry and whine about Hurricane Sandy, which was a glorified Tropical Storm to those in the Gulf Coast, Florida and the Carolinas.

I'll correct his statement.
99% of new York is a shithole.

they just have a better snow preparedness infrastructure.
Exactly, set up shop to sell salt and snow plows down here and you'll be out of business. They are just more prepared for the snow.
Same thing when the hurricanes hit down here. Why don't you just move? Then Sandy comes in and does $30 billion worth of damage. Assholes.

A good counter argument isn’t needed for that kind of stupidity.

Too many damn people on the east coast.

Experience helps, for sure. But, yesterday proved how everyone relies on the infrastructure of plows, salt trucks, etc. to provide a much easier navigation with traffic.
What also complicated matters, which occurs in the South, is that when the snow did occur yesterday, everyone, schools and businesses let all out at the same time, crowding the roads even more so.
With proper snow plowing, a good number of folks can just go about their normal routine, therefore not everyone is trying to get home at 2 PM.

Why drive when you can walk to most places?
Posted on 11/16/18 at 7:52 am to East Coast Band
People can’t drive in general no matter where they live.

Caricature Italian mafia in movies say it that way.
It's usually just "you guys".
Parents are from CT so I it took me until my teenage/college years to go to y'all.
I still say Aunt like a notherner, because there is a "U" there.

The roads here (northern Virginia) were very slick yesterday. The snow that was falling was frozen on the road surface and driving was treacherous until late afternoon. NYC was supposed to get an inch or so and got a lot more than that. If their roads were frozen underneath like ours were it's not surprising that the roadways were a nightmare.
