I would look at Vignes Lake or the new subdivision off elliot if you like that side of Baton Rouge. If you prefer lsu side, Springlake possibly.

All depends on where you work. I live in goodwood villa and love options to avoid traffic and everything I need is less than 5 min away.

There is a lot to consider. Simply giving a price range isn't enough.

Agreed. We simply don't have enough info to answer your question. General area of town you are interested in would be the main thing.

Long term investment? Spanish Town. Downtown is only getting better and property values will be going up in that area later down the road.

Short term? Somewhere close to work.

As stated previously, live close to work. That alone will up your quality of life by reducing the friction in living your daily life.

An hour to and from in rush hour traffic is for the birds.

I can't even imagine spending over $200k on a house with no plans to have kids. I'd get a small condo and funnel everything into a great vacation home somewhere awesome, with plans to retire there too.

This way, when you are old, alone, and have no one to carry on your name, you have a nice place to stay while you wish you could have done more with your life.

But by moving into those neighborhoods they become more desirable to live in.
I moved to Sherwood Forest last year. I like it.

I know. Nobody here would be caught dead even driving through Sherwood Forest. So far I have been killed 4 times and robbed once a week since moving in. Somehow I seem to be holding on.
Honestly, I know my neighbors names and my wife and kids have friends they can walk to visit.
