Parents are now throwing 50-50 birthday parties for their kids. Half of the money and toys they can keep and the other half goes to charity.

I like this idea. Hopefully it catches on and everyone starts doing it.

Giving things to kids is charity. Sounds 100-0 to me.

I'm doing a 50 for 50 birthday donation on FB. I turn 50 Sunday. I started a birthday donation thread on FB called 50 for 50. All money goes to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in my name and my late baby sister's name, who died this year at the age of 27 of breast cancer.
It's already up to $450!!!

Hell no.
Maybe 50% in savings and 50% to play with.

How about they keep the toys and I keep the cash.

I've never had a birthday party. I was lucky if my parents let me out of the cage for my birthday.

All these stupid suckers probably donate to charities that 95% is used for "operating costs"

Operating costs that cover the CEO’s fat 900k + bonus salary

I'd just give them half the amount I was going to give them and tell them I'll just donate the other half myself. Then, I'd keep the money. Win win. The kid gets the same amount and I spend half.

Good, it will help their conscious when they have to pay taxes. I still cry...

Screw that. Most charities are a scam

All this does is reinforce to children that being charitable is an event and not a lifestyle. They will grow up believing it only matters if they can post about it on Facebook later.

We (working people) already donate our taxes to the poor (not working, excess breeding) population.
I actually prefer gofundme, which i used to make fun of. Now i realize most charities are garbage, money diverting scams.
Let my kids enjoy their birthday presents, they are kids. Not their fault their friends parents work.

The only people I know who do “charity donation instead of gifts” parties are the ones who broadcast it on social media. If they’re consistent with it throughout the other days of the child’s life, then I’m sure the kid will turn out to be a very generous, charitable adult. But it’s mostly people who consistently carry an air of superiority with that nonconformist attitude, so I assume the kids will turn out to be douche bags just like their parents.

I’ll just have a very public FB post about “donating my birthday to charity.”
