We did this one year but donated everything to charity. Guests knew about it and the charity of choice up front.

I don’t give to charity because they say the same bullshite every time I see them. I need gas to get to Mississippi or I just need a dollar to get something to eat and then they’ll be out there a week later

Sounds like a disease called Liberalism.

I’d never rob my kids of their birthday presents. That’s just cruel.
But we’ve always raised money for and supported a decent children’s charity where the officers are all volunteers
The fact that the children in the charity are mine, is the a big reason we work so hard to support this particular charity.

Well I guess junior will learn something about income taxes when dad confiscates half his presents and redistributes them to something/someone else. Nothing like forced charity.
They’re kids. Let them enjoy their birthday and gifts. Then ask them if they’d like to donate some of their shite to someone else. Make that the teachable moment. Charity isn’t very legitimate if your forced to do it. Wanting to do it is what makes person sincere.
The DJ who started this shite sounds like a huge attention whore

I started a birthday donation thread on FB called 50 for 50. All money goes to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in my name and my late baby sister's name, who died this year at the age of 27 of breast cancer.
Man, I’m so sorry for your loss. I have a younger sister, she ended up beating her cancer, so I can at least relate to the fight you watch them struggle through.
I don’t have FB, but I would like to donate for myself and my sister. Can you email me a link?
Good luck to you and your family.

My sister has started doing the "No need to bring gifts. Your presence is the best gift" deal.
Few reasons:
1) she doesnt want more crap building up and has 3 kids (9,5,3) that have plenty enough
2) the good reason though is that it helps not put some kids parents in a cant attend "cause they cant afford a gift" type of situation. She'd rather have a fun good experience for her kids, and friends then worry about gifts they bring. She'll have a separate "family/close friends" dinner where gifts are given. Also, avoids some kids from feeling bad when gifts are being opened, etc.

frick that. Any extra cash needs to go directly into my boys 529 account, followed by our roths. I work too hard and donate enough of my money to the government.

I have suggested we don’t have any gifts at all at our kids parties.
My wife thought I was crazy. I go buy like five gifts at a time and put in the closet, not a lot of thought so why waste money. My kids go to about 4 parties a damn month.

50% toys for the child and the other 50% money can be put in a savings account for your kid’s college fund or when he moves out. This teaches them the importance of savings and keeps down on the clutter of toys which seems to be the main reason some people want to do this.

This sounds like something parents do to virtue signal

To the people downing charitable organizations, I like for you to check out St. Judes

They spend something like 10% on actually helping kids. The rest of the money goes to marketing and admin costs.

Just a way for adults to make it about themselves. Attention whore parents. Nothing to see here, well, other than them.

Yeah first time a few yrs back I was like "that sux" for her kids. Went to the first one, and saw how much more enjoyable it was. Especially when you may have a big mix of socio-economic attendees.
A follow-up more adult family/cousins kids dinner is nice. Gifts from grandparents, aunts/uncles/cousins, etc works. And comes more with a prior heads up text to her with a "what does the kid really need/want?". Ha!

St Jude is in a class of its own. It simply does not compare to the shitty charities that people are slamming.
Pretty sure that everyone universally agrees that St Jude is a worthy cause that actually provides service that save lives.
Compare THAT with all of the charities and nonprofits that spend millions on fairly useless "awareness" campaigns.
