Hundreds of thousands dead in America, and millions around the world. Is there a war since the Civil war that killed as many people in such a short period of time?

Less people died last year than the previous year....

Sounds to me like the lockdowns weren't effective then. We ensured a global depression in the coming years and did so utilizing a failed strategy to combat a virus that ended up affecting retirees more than it did people who are currently employed.

How many people have you seen burst into spontaneous convulsions and collapse dead on the street due to Covid-19?

What was the catalyst that caused leadership around the world to go in to panic mode?

Trump was in office. Anything to damage him.

I am not a Covid denier like most on TD, I think it's real and kills old and fat people (with a few fluke cases in young healthy people). I am pro-vaccine and think these vaxx conspiracy theorists are numbskulls.

But at the same time I can acknowledge that the pandemic was hyped (at least by the media) to damage Trump. Zero doubt about this.

I keep seeing variations of this statement throughout this thread.

How do you morons explain the current covid situation in India? It’s not an election year and Trump isn’t POTUS.

If Trumpsters actually experienced cognition, I suspect the cognitive dissonance would break your brains.

ETA: also see Brazil.

Is this a serious question? Like you’ve never understood the Democrat motto “never let a crisis go to waste”?!?

Holy shite. You progressive dipshits really are stupid aren’t you? He didn’t say shite about the virus itself you ignorant frick. He was asking about the mass overreaction to the virus. And if you can’t see the mass overreaction to the virus then you’re too stupid to help.

If someone wants to point to what's wrong with our country, the fact that most are willing to believe politicians over doctors and scientists is a good place to start.

I have. Almost everyone in my family had it and were fine. I’m not sure I know anyone that actually needed to be hospitalized.

I know second-hand of folks who have died from it so no - this can't be summarily dismissed as nothing and I don't think anyone is saying that, but I personally know of at least 50 people or more who have gotten it and of that whole lot only one of them told me it concerned her and that had troubling symptoms. All others have indicated to me that the symptoms were minimally troubling and none of them were even hospitalized...even the one lady who expressed the most concern with her symptoms. Age ranges 20's to 70's.

It is tragic for those who have lost loved ones and I'm sure I would not see this quite the same had I experienced that, but for me trying to look at it objectively, ruining the businesses and livelihood of so many for something that kills less than half of one percent of those who contract can be labeled an overreaction both in presentation and practice and I have zero issue with label.

There was an overreaction worldwide. In the US it was an opportunistic grab by Dems to hurt Trump. However, worldwide fear paralyzed people, we were inundated with fear of the unknown and no one wanted to be the next Wuhan, Spain or Italy.

I mean, for the first month or so the situation was super fluid and epidemiologists and the media had no idea how to make of it.

Initially, in january, we knew of it but really didn't care about it. Then italy happened, then most of europe, then china finally opened up about the severity of it and people were dropping like flies there/the government was killing people off.

That's when we took notice over here and Trump started locking shite down. That was around march. Then we went full lockdown mode when NY in particular started getting real bad.

And pretty much up until mass vaccinations, shite stayed the same.

But I'm not going to hitch myself to the wagon of either party's response to it when the situation itself was fluid because of it being a new disease and initially all of us were watching closely to monitor and see how this thing would mutate.
