So what was it that caused the mass overreaction to COVID-19?

I heard something about Chinese propaganda out of Wuhan that showed people dropping dead in the streets.

I assume the numbers in cases multiplying at high rate had something to do with it.

What was the catalyst that caused leadership around the world to go in to panic mode?

Opportunism. Never let a crisis go to waste.

Good news is that If you’re in the fear business you never have long to wait for a new virus or blacks person getting shot while committing a crime.

There's no doubt in my mind that something popped up in Wuhan.

American media desperately wanted that something to be present in the United States in order to derail the Trump presidency.

I'm not convinced the something in Wuhan was the same virus as Covid-19.

I am, however, convinced that the powers that be now realize the financial catastrophe (foreclosures and evictions, hyperinflation, etc) they could possibly unleash if they "back off" from the Covid-19 restrictions too quickly.

Two things that really started it with our fear mongering media going nuts about drama-

Italian hospitals and deaths.

High number of deaths here in the first three months due to shitty handling of the nursing home situations, especially in NY.

Fear of the unknown and overreactions because politicians were too concerned about risking their career making hard decisions and decided to fall back on "recommendations from experts" so they had some deniability.

Bingo. At that time there was no way Trump was going to lose. Every single quality of life statistic was on the rise, for all races! Gotta hand it to the dems though, they ran with the opportunity and even changed election rules and blamed it on COVID. Just think about how fast they were able to do that considering COVID wasn’t here but 8 months before the election.

Hundreds of thousands dead in America, and millions around the world. Is there a war since the Civil war that killed as many people in such a short period of time?

Did hundreds of thousands more people die in America this year than last year? Surely they did. Eagerly waiting for your response

According to the CDC, we had hundreds of thousands of excess deaths in the first three quarters of 2020. So, yes.
