They use a 22 to the head but (obviously) they don’t die.
Are they arrested? I’m guessing it depends on their location.

I believe it’s against the law to try to kill yourself in LA

Don’t believe you can be arrested for harming yourself.

Wouldn't that suck to survive suicide but then be locked up for attempted murder?

If they shot themself in Times Square and survived, and were able to be more than a vegetable thanks to the the bullet to the brain, then I would imagine charges could be thrown.
That said, if nobody else was injured, then likely nobody would pursue charges against someone with already obvious mental issues, and then who is on a ventilator to live.

Taken to hospital for medical then transferred to psychiatric hospital when recovered sufficiently, no arrest.

I know a 20 year old that did this exact thing. He went to an assisted living facility where he was mentally fine but physically disabled. Like needed someone to wipe his arse. Live 5 years there and died.

I’ve taken care of a lot of unsuccessful suicide attempts Its always worse than not doing it, and being successful

If they discharge a firearm in a public space to hurt themselves, I would be shocked if they weren't arrested for wreckless use or equiv

I’m not at all suicidal but I sometimes wonder which of my guns I’d use to do the deed if need be? Like if I’m terminally ill or facing a lifetime prison sentence. Old school revolver? Messy 12 gauge? 308 even? So many options.

Back in the 1700s, the authorities in New Orleans put a corpse on trial for supposedly hanging themself outside the main government building. Like the actual body was on trial and I think was dumped in the river as punishment or something.

My friend Paul had his brother put a .22 to his forehead and pulled the trigger. Killed him.

They used to prosecute it a long time ago (like 19th century and earlier), but do not anymore. There may have been some states where it was illegal in 20th century, but I doubt they were prosecuted.
