It does spin on its axis, it's just that it's rotational speed is in sync with it's orbital speed that we never see the backside. And I agree that is crazy as well!

Except it is. Especially factoring in us being here to see it. Total solar eclipses won’t happen again after another 100 million years or so due to the orbit moving further out.

so it will be in a different position every year for the next 100 million years and will still be perfect? therefore it isn't perfect, but rather "close enough"?

It's only perfect for the people under the shadow. If the moon were bigger their would be a wider shadow. If the moon were smaller there would be a narrower shadow.

exactly. the moon is 8,000 miles closer to the earth for this eclipse than it was for the one in 2017
yet people will act like it has to be in this perfect spot haha

The “perfection” is referring to how the size of the visible moon exactly matches the size of the visible sun. If it didn’t, you couldn’t see the corona.

if the earth/moon was larger I would think the light would still bend around it causing a corona effect.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the corona is due to our atmosphere deflecting light in billions of directions from the sun to us...to give the appearance of a corona. If there was a vacuum between us and the sun there would be no corona, right?

Nope.
It’s a discrete element of the solar atmosphere, actually hotter than the surface of the sun.
It’s typically invisible because it’s so much less bright than the main solar body. In the eclipse the body is blocked, allowing for the corona to be visible.
It’s part of why scientists do so many observations during it.

yep, but that wouldn't perfectly block the sun with a diameter that is basically the exact same size of the sun. It would block the sun with a much larger area.

Its not really that wild.
Many sizes would block the sun. The distance is the balance of its mass being pulled into space by larger planets and the earths mass holding it in place.
