my old man is a drummer. may go this route. What do you play? my lil one is a bit ADD, can't see him being patient enough for a guitar.

I play drums and percussion.

For a kid that learning the basics, you could get him something like a Cajon. It's a wooden box that sounds like a combination of a bass and snare drum. Plus, it's not too loud. I know I annoyed my parents for a while with that loud kit. I play this one:

That's top of the line and runs about $300. An entry model will cost $100 or less. Like this one:

There's a few different types that are made. I can get into more detail if you like.

You could also bring him into a music store, to see which instrument he's naturally attracted towards. Keyboard might be good with his small hands. Plus, it combines rhythmic and melodic skills. Plus, it has a volume knob.

Either way, done some basic lessons would help. Not necessarily private lessons. I think group lessons might be better (and cheaper) for a young kid.

Here's an article I found regarding add kids and instruments.

Ours loved theirs ... especially when I played with them. They loved laughing their arse off at me.

I was big into educational toys as well. Someone mentioned Barnes & Noble ... they have Melissa & Doug toys I think which are great. Variety of age appropriate things.

Lol. An add 4 year old obsessed with dinosaurs, with a drummer in the family? I thought I was supposed to die before I was reincarnated.

Why would anyone buy a 3 year old an iPad?

THIS!

4 year olds should be just about ready for T-ball. Sooner the development begins...the better.

And for the OP: Think about the potential payoff. Potential LSU baseball player and/or MLB player if it works out right....Small investment now..potential major payoff later!

My son was into dinosaurs when he turned 4, we got some dinosaur balloons that had a "leash" on them. Best gift he got. He pulled those things everywhere for days until the Helium was depleted.

Edit to say they were like 20 bucks tops

Fishing pole
drawing pad and pencils
pajamas
kite
nerf rocket thing you jump on to make the rocket go
sling shot
a snackeez

At 4 years old the little stuff makes just as much if not a bigger impression on them than big stuff.
