You can still find the legit metal Tonka trucks. My nephews love the one I got them.

Also, my nieces bday was last weekend it was all things paw patrol.

An empty box. If you give him a gift, he'll get tired of it after the first hour and want to play with the box it came in.

I buy my nieces and nephews stock for Christmas and Birthdays. They have way too many toys as is and will far prefer my present in 20 years.

I'd seriously suggest something for outside ... "larger" size dumptrucks, tractors. And I seem to remember my boys having the smaller version of basketball goals (Little Tykes maybe?) at age 4 and up.

As a mom, for my kids I'd be looking for something to be used OUTSIDE or something on the creative side. Mine LOVED LOVED LOVED legos ... we did have a Lego table for them. Still in the attic now for my "one day" grandkids.

Can you add on to the swing set??

Why not consider an "experience" that's his level? When our daughter turned 3 I think it was, I bought tickets to see Dragon Tails Live. No I didn't want to go and YES she says that she does remember some BUT on that day, she was wide eyed and in love and did talk about it for quite a while.

I make up for the lack of tangible gifts by spending time with them.

I actually created a trust for them and buy stock through the trust. They cannot touch the trust until they turn 30. I specifically preclude education as a use for the money because they should work to get a full ride to college like I did. I didn't pay a dime for undergrad or grad school. The money is for later in life after they have a better idea what they want to do with their lives, such as starting a business.

When my son was about that age, we gave him some pvc pipe and connectors (no joke). Just cut the pipe into varying lengths, give him different types of connectors, and he can play with this for a long time. It's kind of like building with Legos or tinker toys, but is lots of fun because it's on a larger scale. And kids think it's fun to hook the water hose up to their creations and see where the water goes.
