I understand your position.

That said, barring any new information or possible treatments, if me or anyone close to me runs into complications, I’d certainly give it a try.

And it appears that’s already happening in practice around the country based upon the articles I’ve read tonight, which IMO seems like common sense.

And regardless if it ends up as the go-to treatment or not, I’m a little perplexed why we haven’t seen more stories about this in the MSM.

You have a woefully incomplete understanding of the word "proven".

This place has become a cesspool of conspiracy theorists and functionally illiterate backyard epidemiologists.

Excerpts from Medscape:
quote:

This follows encouraging in vitro results obtained by a Chinese team led by Xueting Yao, from Peking University Third Hospital, Beijing, China, which were published online by the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases on March 9th. However, the data were deemed insufficient by the infection community to recommend the compound as a treatment.

Moreover, chloroquine is not listed among the four treatments studied as part of the recently launched European clinical trial piloted by Inserm, which includes 3200 severe hospitalised patients, including 800 French patients.
Chloroquine was ruled out due to the risk of interactions with other medications for common comorbidities in infected patients, and because of possible adverse effects in patients undergoing resuscitation.

quote:

Professor Gilles Pialoux, an infectious disease specialist at Tenon Hospital, was cautious in his response. He told Medscape's French Edition: "The idea is interesting but we need large, randomised, controlled trials. We should not communicate this kind of information on YouTube, it is not meaningful.
"Don’t forget, this compound has not been included in Inserm’s trial because there are more interesting avenues, such as remdesivir or Kaletra [lopinavir/ritonavir]. We must be careful not to repeat the story with cyclosporin in HIV."

Among the last twenty things I need on Earth right now are idiots without clinical scientific backgrounds presenting the general public with unverified "facts" about how to treat a disease.

Understandable, but until there is an “approved” treatment for this, it certainly seems responsible to me for the world to know that there are indeed treatments that are available and are having success in limited trials. I’m not advocating for someone to go on TV and say “this is the cure”

At the very least, could it not help with the hysteria??

There are a million things that could help with the hysteria, including a more accurate statement of "more people will get better with no treatment at all than will get seriously ill"

Having the media advertise incomplete, non-peer-reviewed nonreproduced studies to quell fear sounds like the reason Morris Bart et al have billboards and would be about as annoying for me to try to undo while face to face with someone as explaining why filling their child's ears and belly buttons with essential oils isn't going to stop them from getting the measles.

Unfortunately I think everyone already knows this and it hasn’t stopped the irrational panic.

"If it even sniffs being promising, they're gonna approve it for treatment, removing the FDA red tape. "

This is a wreckless statement.

The guy pretty clearly and succinctly explained his caution on the idea, and your reply is anecdotal evidence of one guy here?

Well it’s one doctors opinion vs another. And this already is showing success across different groups. It would be one thing if this was a totally new drug or vaccine... that will take many months of fast tracked trials... these are two time tested treatments.

And I agree that this probably should only be used on patients that are beyond the mild stage.

And it’s a small sample size, but there is this...

Did you not read the French study I posted? It’s on actual patients with the disease.

Non medical expert here. But if I had to guess, they probably want to test it on a larger sample size to test the validity of it. And even then they may want to wait to see if the patients have any lasting side effects.

Every person that went to Nam took it. People that visit Africa take it. It’s been FDA approved for 50 years.

why dont you translate?

does it look like they are recruiting medical people to try it?

if its a cure do you have to have it before it can cure you?

what are the side effects?
