Seven people found dead in mass Western Australia tragedy in a home near Margaret River
quote:
“Police are currently responding to what I can only describe as an horrific incident in Osmington, 20km northeast of Margaret River,” he said.
“It is early in this investigation. Based on what we do know, this is clearly a tragedy.
“At about 5.15am this morning, police were called to a rural property on the outskirts of this property at Margaret River.”
They responded to the scene after a telephone call was made. Commissioner Dawson said the call was recorded but he was not prepared to release further information about what information was contained in it.
Commissioner Dawson told media that the bodies had “gunshot wounds”. Katrina Miles and her four children aged eight to 13 were found at the property.

Cool strawman. Got any more?

Am I mistaken that the huge gun buy-back/confiscation thing was in direct response to a mass shooting? You throw around terms like "straw man" and have no concept of the meaning.

I am in no way in support of banning guns, however, those that are for it are not saying it will prevent every single murder by guns..........

7 people died and it was the worst shooting there in over 20 years. Weak premise is weak.

Let’s compare the homicide by firearm rate in both countries and see how that comes out. Won’t be pretty for the USA I’m assuming

quote:Firearm related offences in Melbourne, Australia are already on the rise again. Such laws may offer a short term fix, but in the long run are not effective.
Crimes associated with firearm possession have also more than doubled, driven by the easy availability of handguns, semi-automatic rifles, shotguns and, increasingly, machine guns, that are smuggled into the country or stolen from licensed owners. These weapons have been used in dozens of recent drive-by shootings of homes and businesses, as well as targeted and random attacks in parks, shopping centres and roads. “They’re young, dumb and armed,” said one former underworld associate, who survived a shooting attempt in the western suburbs several years ago. “It used to be that if you were involved in something bad you might have to worry about [being shot]. Now people get shot over nothing - unprovoked.”

Isn’t it also the first mass shooting they’ve had since the 90s?

Actually it shows a lot about the effectiveness.

Australian Gun Laws: Little Effect
Anyone who labors under the belief that Australian gun-control laws have delivered any of the promises made in 1996 is very ignorant.

I texted somebody I know who is from and lives in Perth about this last night and she actually got mad at me because I used the term "mass shooting" exactly like is said in the title of the article. She said Australia hasn't had a mass shooting since the 90s, this was just regular old murder because even though the bodies were found in a house with 2 guns they hadn't officially said the COD so we didn't know they got shot
I'm tempted to send her a link to Australia's own media this morning describing it as a mass shooting and giving the definition of mass shooting. I fully expect her to blow up if I do that instead of admitting she was wrong.

Yeah, I do, and you used a strawman argument. You implied that people think that the "effectiveness" of gun control in Australia is preventing all mass shootings or maybe gun violence in general, when that's not what most sane people actually believe.
If that wasn't what you were implying, then what the hell is your point?

Then there are an awful lot of insane people out there touting Australia as some gun-free utopia

Let me rephrase...the point of the legislation was not to be some end-all to gun violence and mass shootings, just like the border wall is not some end-all to illegal immigration.

Actually that was exactly the promise made by those pushing the Australian NFA in 1996. In fact, you still see it reported in the news, incorrectly, that Australia has had zero mass shootings since 1996. It's a common talking point parroted by the ignorant of gun-control advocacy

"It won't seem irrelevant to some that McPhedran and Baker are affiliated with the Sydney-based International Coalition for Women in Shooting and Hunting."
Lol. Let's look at daily shooting deaths in all of Australia vs either NOLA or Chicago.

If you think gun confiscation will ever be effectively implemented in this country then you would be the stupid one. Even the hint of stricter gun laws or the banning of certain types of firearms causes major spikes in gun sales and NRA membership.
