Actually that was exactly the promise made by those pushing the Australian NFA in 1996
Oh really? You have any facts to back that up? Let's see those quotes of promises that there will never be another mass shooting again.

In fact, you still see it reported in the news, incorrectly, that Australia has had zero mass shootings since 1996
Irrelevant to my point.

Guns should be confiscated from people with mental issues like yourself. Yes, infowars is a mental issue.

What in anyway makes you think that I agree with anything that whack job Alex Jones says?
ETA: let me rephrase that. Please show any post I have made citing infowars or that lunatic Alex Jones.

If you think gun confiscation will ever be effectively implemented in this country then you would be the stupid one.

Which makes me wonder why fricking sniveling pussies like you bitch about it 24/7
Just shut the frick up already

Using comparative demographics, or no?

Ok.

Isn’t it also the first mass shooting they’ve had since the 90s?
Apparently they define it as five or more people murdered while we define it as four or more people shot.
As you can see, our definition allows for more to be counted. If you use our definition, they've had at least four or five since 2002.
Now that sounds small, but you then have to consider Australia has about 20 something million people, so to get those numbers to make sense you have to get to the rate. Multiply 4 or 5 by about 14 and you get 56 to 70 mass shootings if Australia was as populated as the US.
Now that number still might be lower than the US, but not as satisfying as none in 20 years.

...aaaaand this is exactly why people push back against ANY further firearm restrictions.
Who gets to decide what constitutes "mental illness"? Daddy government, of course. Surely supporting that racist, sexist, nazi, Trump means there are some screws loose, right?
Careful what you wish for, you short-sighted, hyperventilating, idiot.
Just accept that these guys...
...were way smarter than us and thought of every contingency and drafted the best government ever devised.

I really don't understand some of you gun people. When I say "gun people" I am talking about those who think everyone is trying to take away your guns and you want to prove to everyone that there is no point to even consider common sense laws.
As I have said on here before, I am all for people having guns. I have one in my house, like most people in South Louisiana. But the common sense laws is to prevent as many of these mass shooting from happening, as possible. That is what Australia did and in 20 years they have only had 1 mass shooting..
This back to some of the mass shootings we had. The waffle house shooting a few weeks ago. The shooter had his guns taken away from him in the past. If there was a law that made it illegal for people, whose guns were taken away from them for certain reasons, then they are not allowed to live in a house with guns in it. Instead, the police gave his guns back to his dad and told the dad to keep them away from him. He was then able to get ahold to them and go shoot up waffle house.
The HS in Florida a few months ago. The shooter was someone with know mental issues and troubling behavior. He was living with a family who thought he had the right to have a gun because he was 18, despite his history of violence and mental issues. If we could just keep the guns from people with known mental issues then we could at least prevent some of them from happening.

Because there are already thousands of pieces of legislation that were passed with the goal of curbing their misuse, and guess what? We still have criminals committing felonies with them.
The only net effect of all the firearm legislation on the books has been to make it more difficult or expensive for law-abiding citizens to exercise their right.
Newsflash - Criminals dont obey laws. How long has heroin and cocaine been illegal? How many laws have been passed to prevent their sale, distribution and consumption? What has been the net effect of drug laws? Have they had any effect at all on drugs? Just three. To make criminals out of some of the good people that enjoy them recreationally, to make them way more expensive and to empower and enrich dangerous people who skirt the law to bring them to us.
Have they stopped their sale?
No.
Have they prevented people from becoming drug addicts?
No.
What makes you think any MORE firearm legislation is going to stop violence? Its only going to have the same effect as drug laws. To make criminals out of some of the good people that enjoy them recreationally, to make them way more expensive and to empower and enrich dangerous people who skirt the law to bring them to us.
"You can make something illegal but you cant make it unpopular".
Have we learned nothing from alcohol prohibition?
I have. Apparently you and your people havent.

Did you really just confuse Austria and Australia
Posted on 5/11/18 at 2:26 pm to nola000
What’s your point? Because Australia isn’t on that list. So their death rate is so low it doesn’t make the list.
Now I see your point. Australia has a much lower death rate by mass public shootings than at least 18 other countries.

...now that thats out of the way...
Sure but is that really possible? This isnt Minority Report. We cant predict criminal behavior.
1. This is false and misleading. And, no. Im not doing your research and quoting shite for you. Educate yourself and bring it here and we'll discuss it.
2. There are so many other factors to control for that arent when you make claims like that. Correlation =/= causation.
This is where we can start to have discussions.
This is one example of where they start to break down.
How would it be fair to others in the household if they couldnt maintain arms because their, son/wife/elderly father/indigent child/etc. was deemed "ineligible" to have firearms in a dwelling that they reside in?
Easier said than done, my friend.
