Unions were needed when working conditions were deadly, and few laws protected employees, even children.
Some companies paid people only in company cash, and that money could only be spent at the company store or rent for company housing.
Unions devolved into protecting the poorest employees during the 20th century. Are they really needed in most occupations? Do they protect and reward some of the sorriest employees at the expense of the good ones? Yes

Labor Unions were a fantastic voice for the working man. Unfortunately human nature took over and the Unions became the voice of the lazy and worthless. And stupid as in your case. I drive whatever my non union company is buying. Which is currently Ford.

The only time I think unions are fine are when you have a group with a unique and valuable skill set that wants to negotiate together. 99.9% of the unions don’t fit that description, and are just a money grab and attempt at a shakedown.

Are you Union? I have been for 20 years, and I know what I am talking about. Most non union men don’t know much, or even anything about the Union.

Contrary to popular belief, not all Union employees are Democrat. I am a long time Union man, and I voted for Trump. And I’ll do it again in 2020. MAGA

My job is represented by a union (gov engineer).
I don't pay dues. I have never sought advice of the union rep. I have, however, seen the amount of useless employees that hold on to a job forever because they are impossible to fire. I have been out paced in salary with peers in the industry because of collective bargaining.
I have considered leaving the job for private sector many times, but I love my job.
