Yes, they will. I can tell you from experience.

They don't give a shite. All they talk about is what you could have done to prevent it, because they damn sure aren't going to do anything about it before or after the fact.

ETA - This is the case with all departments regarding all thefts other than guns. Cops don't give a shite, but no one is quicker to blame the victim than NOPD.

This happened on Friday. Not today and you were not there.

OP also claimed people are leaving the city in droves to live in JP and offered no proof.

Also, while this shouldn’t be something anyone has to worry about, it’s easily avoidable. Don’t leave your car running, if you do take the fob and lock the door, don’t get gas in Hollygrove.

Might let my wife get out to pump gas, leave it running, and I’ll lay down on the floor under the back seat of the truck. Then I’ll beat the frick out of these losers when they try to steal it

If this happens in New Orleans, it could happen anywhere. I also heard some guy went jogging in Africa and got mauled by lions. What are the odds?

Carjacking is a crime of opportunity," said former NOPD officer, Chief Reginald Rowe who now owns a security company called Seal Security. "People have a habit of leaving their vehicles running or the keys on the seat with the doors unlocked."

This is from the article. So they are saying most carjackings just happen and are not pre-meditated. Seems more reasonable in this case that this person was keeping an eye on the area and waiting for the right situation to present itself.

Also since all new cars use key fobs instead of keys, the car doesn’t even need to be running for it to be quickly stolen. People who leave their keys in the console would be just as easy as a target even if they are just a few feet away pumping gas. I am actually curious now, if a person pumping gas next to their car with their fob in their pocket is “close enough” for the car to identify the fob and start.

Most require the fob to be inside of the vehicle.

More like the right CAR.

He probably had an "order" for this make and model of vehicle from the chop shop located in "da East" where he was last seen.

On a positive note that was likely the least violent car theft in NOLA last week
