What a sad state of affairs this city is in. Costco was four cars deep at every lane and the local entrepreneurial repo crew finds a nice White BMW to take back to the chop shop. I’m not sure what the poor woman could have done here other than drive to Metairie to fuel up.

I would think a BMW would have push to start so you could at least keep your keys in your pocket and also allow your car to stay running.

Strange. They said that Costco incident happened on Friday.

Also, who leaves their car running when they get out?

Watch the cop in the video. Everything he says is just basic common sense, but a lot of people don't pay attention to what they're doing.

Keep your keys in your pocket and don't leave the door unlocked should be obvious, but everyone's staring at the phone thinking about what a big hurry they're in.

Also, don't sit there staring at your phone - pay attention to your surroundings.

there is no where to go into at costco. you literally shut off the car, get out, swipe cards, pump, leave

so unless the woman left her key fob in the purse in the car or left the keys in it and pumped while the car was running

Judging by the video the car might have been left running.

Not blaming the victim, but gotta have some common sense.

I do, but mine is programmed to not go into gear without the key fob and it is always in my pocket.

This happened on Friday. Not today and you were not there.

I do when it's either really hot or really cold outside.

But my car will shut off once the key is no longer within 6 feet.

If it is a new BMW, it should be easy to track its location.

One of the other cars they stole was a Land Rover that they tracked with the theft recovery system

I found out I can drive for miles and miles then turn the car off before realizing I don't have the fob.

And no way to restart it.

Problem #1 with car theft in NOLA - the first thing the NOPD will do is blame you when it happens.

How about spending real, quality time tracking these guys down and arresting them?

Too busy with all the violent crime I suppose.

I had a car stolen once. They didn't care.

I bet if you were a cop in a port city, where most cars are stolen, you'd get over it pretty quick too.
