Smoke alarm question

My smoke alarm has started randomly beeping in the last week. I took the battery out this morning to replace it but even without a battery, it is still beeping.
Will it beep until a fresh battery is put in? Is it time to replace the whole alarm? The date on the inside is Sept. 8, 2006.
Any help is appreciated!

It's hard wired. Put a new battery or replace it

It will still beep without a battery bc it still has some juice left.

Blow it out with compressed air. They'll do that when they get real dusty.

May be hard wired with battery backup. The hard wire will keep it beeping until the low battery is replaced.
Or could be dust or something in it. Try blowing it out.

New battery will stop the beeping. The date inside is The day it was born. If you think it's too old, test by creating some smoke or buying a can of smoke spray or replace it.

Would be my guess, but figured he would see that.
Could have enough onboard power to continue the beeping without a battery

Consumer Reports and NFPA recommend replacing detectors every 10 years even if they still appear to work.

Some are now going so far as to making them stop work after x amount of years. My co/smoke alarm was beeping even after a new battery, and I couldn't figure out why until I looked up the model. After 3650 days...*poof*.

Replace it with a lithium battery and you won't have to do it again for 10 years

I had this happen. If it's hardwired with the battery as a backup, remove the battery, twist the unit from the ceiling and disconnect from the wire. Then push the test button down to reset the alarm. It should beep. Plug it back in and see if it works. If it doesn't, you need to replace.

Had this happen at our old house. Two units hardwired and connected between the upstairs and downstairs. The downstairs one would randomly go off, especially when it got cold.
Did some research and it is recommended to replace the units after 10 years. These units were OEM to the house built in 2000. Went to Home Depot, bought two new ones, installed them and everything was fine.

Not anymore, the chemicals in compressed "air" can screw up the sensors so they all use Canless Air now. If he puts a new battery in the beeping will stop.
