I was surprised that this attorney came out and gave all of those details in a presser. Might be that Smith's wife insisted and it might be that the attorney advised against it, but she wanted to clear her husband's name and get her story out there. Who knows. Seemed odd to me. I figured he'd just give an update on her condition and thank well wishers and fans.

True..tell the people she's doing well and thanks for the thoughts and prayers. Then briefly discuss that they feared for their lives and discuss how many times he was shot in the back. Way too much info given out.
He could always say "it's currently under an investigation, I cannot comment on that."
