Take the air filter off and pour a little gas in the carb. If it cranks and runs again for 8-10 seconds it's most likely a fuel problem.

Unless you screwed up putting it back together. Then it could also be a timing problem

Honda's have very finicky carburetors. Take it apart and make sure the float is not jacked up, or the needle has fallen out.

did you try some starter fluid or just gas in the air intake to see if it will crank? if it will crank, then you can start process of elimination.

Fuel, compression, and fire.

If it ran right for the 10 seconds it started and ran, timing probably isn’t the issue.

Compression is easy to determine, and speaks to timing. Pull the plug, put your finger over the hole, and pull the cord. If compression blows your finger off the hole, you have it, and timing probably is right.

While the plug is out, ground it to the motor and pull the cord. If you see a spark between the contacts, you have fire. Unless you have multiple key ways on the flywheel, you have fire at the correct time.

You’re left with fuel. As others have said, use ether, or pour a little gas in the carb. If it runs, even for a second, you probably have a carb problem, or a vacuum leak that’s so bad it won’t draw fuel with the air through the carb.

Is this the rock you hit?

If the septic tank guy kicked a rock into your yard, and it destroyed your mower, I would think that you need a better mower.

Check the tension on the cable to the kill switch.

This. Last year I went through my carb for about a half hour, then realized the kill switch wasn't being completely disengaged by the cable.
On mine I can tie the kill switch back with a bread tie for testing.

Go buy a new law mower , set it up and have you wife start cutting the grass while you go back to trying to fixi the old mower wirh all the advice you have recentl aquired via the TD OT repair forum.

By the time you give up trying to fix a new mower, your yard will be cut and you will have the new replacement mower broken in for next week when you go back to cutting the grass.

If it acts like the blade is out of balance, it might be a slightly bent shaft.

If you had the mower on its side I would change the spark plug. Also check to make sure the carb float isn't stuck

I tied an overhand knot mid cable to take up the tension.

I was about to scrap the mower!

Ok, so I put a couple drops of gas in the chamber. The most I could get it to do was give a little backfire. A couple times trying to start there was a build up of pressure and it wouldn’t pull. Sounds like timing, right?

Pull the spark plug and make sure the engine is turning freely.
