Ok, so I put a couple drops of gas in the chamber.
I'd also remove spark plug and start with it clean, unflooded. As said, make sure it's sparking.

Does this have the feature where you can take it out of gear and leave it running while you walk away?
If so, the mechanism that allows that could be fricked up, not allowing you to start it while it thinks it is in gear.

If you cannot pull the cord because of pressure there is too much fuel or fuel/oil mixture in the combustion chamber.
I had a similar problem after I "stood" my snapper riding mower to sharpen the blade. The carburetor float had not stopped the gas from flooding the compression chamber. Pulled the spark plug, pulled the cord a few times and gas poured out. I also had gas in my oil reservoir. Rebuilt carburetor.
An aside. If your lawnmower runs for a while before stopping, start it with the gas cap off. If the vent is clogged, it creates a vacuum lock.

It would probably take a little more than that, especially if it isn't getting any gas through the carb.

Which can be a timing thing, or the simple fact that you are pouring gas in the carb, so there is more fuel than is burned in one cycle, so it pops through the exhaust stroke as well.

That certainly does. I wouldn't expect a person to be able to get enough compression out of a little lawnmower engine for this to happen. Does the engine ever try to push air back through the carb? If so, the valves are probably not opening and closing correctly in relation to crank or piston position, so yes, timing. Not timing regarding spark, but valve timing.

quote:This, your pressure build up might be due to hydrolock. Bad timing doesn't make sense if it ran good/smooth for 8-10 seconds.
A couple times trying to start there was a build up of pressure and it wouldn’t pull. Pull the spark plug and make sure the engine is turning freely.

Piston it pumping, but the lawnmower is not drawing a spark. Brand new spark plug.
Bad wire or kill switch engaged.

I’m not sure there is a kill switch.

I’m not sure there is a kill switch.

I take it back. Wife just want pulling hard enough (bazinga!!). I pulled and it is drawing spark. I smell fuel. No fire.

Ain’t that the truth.

I put a couple drops of gas in the chamber and it backfired once and didn’t fire. It has to be something simple to fix this...
Posted on 7/16/18 at 11:33 am to FenrirTheBeard
Put gas back in the tank, prime the carb, and try to start it like normal.

Why in the frick are you doing all this over a push mower?
Once you realized you bent the crankshaft you should have thrown it in the dumpster and got another one.
Stop attempting to win the Darwin award by putting gas in the chamber. Use starting fluid.

Are you using non ethanol fuel?

I hear you, dude. It’s a good mower (walk-behind) and I thought I could fix it. I still think I can, but I have a spare push mower in the meantime.

So we're back to it running for 8-10 seconds when you put it together. If it is backfiring, it is firing. Did you see the timing marks on the cam when you put it back together?

I purchased a brand new crankshaft online and have spent the past two days installing it.
God damn son
Take off your carb, soak it in carb cleaner. Use a small object to clean out the jets, then blow it out.. put that sum bitch back on and cut your shite

WHen I put the crank in, I made sure to alight the rod on the new crank exactly where the old was. Now, could I have screwed that up? Absolutely.
