Slidell sucks but it's at least only a few hours from prime white sand beaches.

And like 15 minutes from on site sports betting

I grew up just east of LC. In fact it is the Greater Lake Charles area. Life was great! Best duck hunting, best fishing, best food, and beset people there. Not as many mosquitos as Slidell and no termites. For those who like other entertainment, there is first class gambling. Slidell can't compete.

Lithette #3 lived in the Chuck for a year and half. I was the surprised that there are a couple of really good restaurants besides Darryls. The Chuck seems a lot nicer than Slidell

Born, raised and still live in Slidell. It sucks. The cancer that is NOLA East and da parish have spread and its sad. Loved living here as a kid. Only think keeping me here now is my mom...can't move the grandkids away from her.

You’ll always have casinos

Well until Texas makes it legal then you’ll just have big empty buildings

Never been to Slidell so can’t really answer your question

The two population centers in the state (I guess you could call Slidell that - I know it’s a stretch) with legitimate coastal settings, who both do shite to exploit their natural settings. That’s the worst part about both places in my mind. They are really sort of an apple to oranges comparison on everything else, though. Slidell is not exactly a real place.

YGTBFKM. You can't even buy Beer in Texas right now. You think those Old Baptist gonna let you have a casino?

Slidell is close to BSL, so it has that going for it.

Both have quality Lucinda Williams songs about them...so they are cosmically tied together.

Lake Charles has over 70,000 people and Slidell fewer than 30,000.

Katrina and everything that came and left with it ruined Slidell. It was never the most forward thinking or building code advanced town, but it used to have a nice small town family feel to it. As a kid, it was a good place to grow up in the 70-80’s.

I always found that Lake Charles was not so attractive.

Probably not but nothing to do with Baptist and everything to do with keeping Texas legislators pockets full

Hopefully for Lake Chuck that never happens. The majority of the patrons are in fact from Texas.

Glad to see the other economic activity going well for the Chucksters

Slidell is 25 minutes from New Orleans and 20 minutes from non-shithole Mandeville/Covington. LC is and is surrounded by shithole.

our #1 industry is still refining/exporting and that's booming and constantly expanding

with how the far Left has developed, and that taking hold in the few areas of TX that are liberal-minded, i can't see them supporting casinos. it's basically exploitation of the poor. add them with the blue-haired white baptists and the black baptists and i just don't see how they can get it done

they're doing so well otherwise there is no need to support a parasitic industry like gambling

yeah i'm not trying to compare LC to mandevill or covington (and i have no idea which of those is better)

Covington is better than Mandeville. Mandeville is full of fake people with new money who look down on others. It is nothing but cookie cutter strip malls and has no character at all. Covington is full of old money people who don't have to put on a show to impress the neighbors.

I’m failing to see how this applies to Old Mandeville.

They are basically the same and most don't know where one starts and the other ends.

Never encountered this and I've been here 18 years. Cliche with no real evidence.

Like in every other city? Of course the main thoroughfares will have that sort of development. Old Mandeville has a pleasant character.
