As if that wasn't enough the damn Europeans appropriated their techniques!

quote:
“Africans used smoking to preserve foods from the tropical climate, and also from pests.” What we know as modern smoking is largely by design, a blend of Native and African techniques that European colonizers appropriated, adding their own techniques. However, Native American and African ways of smoking took time, a sparse resource in slavery. “The British and German culture of smoking was more convenient [for the master],” Twitty explains. “They [enslaved Africans] didn’t have a lot of time on their hands.”

In his book, "Black Rednecks and White Liberals," Thomas Sowell proposes:
quote:
that the black ghetto culture originates in the dysfunctional white southern redneck culture which was prominent in the antebellum South. This culture came, in turn, from the "Cracker culture" of "North Britons", that is, border English, highland Scots, Welsh, and Ulstermen who emigrated from the more lawless border regions of Britain in the eighteenth century.

Why is cultural appropriation bad? Why would someone actively continue to not use a better technique or method?

Why is appropriation a bad thing? 1) the appropriator isn’t permanently taking away anything. 2) for the person/group doing the appropriation they are inherently signaling that they value what they are appropriating, hence the other person/group is providing something useful. If anything, the latter group should feel proud of their accomplishment.

I'm honestly not convinced that the slaves worked any harder- on average- than the people I see hanging out on the wrong end of Orleans St. in Mandeville. To believe otherwise would be to ignore almost 50 years of personal observation.

Are Romans considered white? Because the earliest known fried chicken recipe dates back to the Roman Republic well over 2,000 years ago.
