Now Al Jazeera reports rock under the bow.

two sources said efforts had been complicated by rock under the ship’s bow.

And the President of Egypt says they need to start off loading cargo to help her float. This pictures shows the advanced infrastructure next to the ship, ready to receive the cargo.

Western powers giving up control of the Panama and Suez Canals was dumb

Now both controlled by corrupt entities looking for bribes.

Send four large tugs and 10 Cajuns per tug to the Suez Canal and that ship will be freed within 24 hours, maybe less.

Guaranteed.

Maybe the Ship was purposely wedged to block the canal, for some diabolical scheme that we will never know, but that would make a great movie.

My money is on this. They definitely don’t seem overly concerned with freeing the ship. If they were, I’d imagine there’d be a lot more equipment on hand to deal with this.

They have 10 of the biggest tugs in the world plus several large cutter head dredges. What else do you want them to do?

You don’t think Egypt doesn’t want this canal opened? You realize how much money the are losing everyday that canal is closed? They make $6b a year off that canal.

They get $1.5 billion every year from the US for doing jack shite. The powers that be in control right now will compensate them.

Egypt is going to get thier money regardless, they may loose a few ships that will make the long haul around the cape, but they will just raise the price of passage

I’d totally buy them angling for more roles that companies have to pay and allow aboard in order to transit the canal.

My oh my, what a different world we live (in both time and place) from 1977-1982 when I went through the Panama Canal on a semi-regular basis while working on tugs. I could never imagine something like that happening back then. The PC worked like clockwork. Of course, our then Greatest of Nations ran the thing; owned it in fact. But on the other hand, after the Reagan administration, the Shrubs, Slick Willie, and the Commie Obama, would have let the Muzzie Terrorists run wild in the canal zone and commit acts of war so they could declare war after war for the enrichment of "defense" contractors.
