Churchill is hated in Australia and New Zealand. He would send in the soldiers from both countries to die while weakening the enemy. After that British troops would come in and grab the glory.

It was sorta compare to firing an AK on full auto.

I forget the wine brand but he allegedly drank 42,000 bottles of it in his lifetime.

Churchill and England certainly weren't the only ones to ever do that. France did it all the time in WW1. That was one of the "benefits" of having colonies at the time.

1940- Churchill's Own Cabinet Wanted Peace
This isn't controversial history. Nor is it revisionist history. The Germans were very open to peace settlement with the English. Pat Buchanan wrote an entire book about it.
Look around, boss. Our common history of this conflict is dangerously misconstrued.

Funny, my SIL is Australian and she's never said a cross word about Churchill, and her dad fought in the Pacific.
And I mostly posted this because of how much Churchill looks like a 1920's gangster in the original photo. I thought the OT would pick up on it as well....

Because peace worked so well the first time Chamberlain tried it just a year or two earlier? The Poles were loving it I'm sure. What is your point? You're doing a horrible job of getting it across. By 1940, there was no other viable path forward with Germany and Japan.

Peace with Hitler?

Following Winston Churchill’s routine for a day
7.30 — Wake up, remain in bed, eat breakfast, read newspapers, work, glass of whiskey and soda.
11:00 — Out of bed, stroll around garden supervising estate, whiskey and soda.
13:00 — Multi-course lunch, imperial pint of Champagne.
15:30 — Work from study, glass of cognac.
17:00 — Hour and a half nap/siesta, a habit acquired during his time in Cuba.
18:30 — Wake up, bath, dress for dinner.
20:00 — Lengthly dinner with guests, imperial pint of Champagne.
00:00 — Work in study, more cognac.
01:00–03:00 — Bedtime.

Eh, I thought the issue was not some request from the soldiers, but that the drums cost like 30x as much to manufacture as the regular stick magazines; you sure not? A lot of guns, the Tommy guns being prime examples, got simplified for wartime production, making them both faster and less expensive to manufacture. As example: my 1943 Springfield Armory M-1 (Garand) has stuff like the nice trigger guard, but later ones got simplified stamped ones.
Issue with the drum was it was notorious for jamming in the field and very heavy to carry. Mags where lighter, didn't jam and actually saved lives.
Drum looks cooler for sure.

And Churchill was 100% correct to not seek peace with Hitler. Anyone who thought peace would last is and was an idiot. Exhibit A - Joseph Stalin and Russia thought they had peace with Germany.
Churchill was the strong man and leader the world needed at that time.

All that and the drum rattled - you couldn't sneak up on people with it, and the gun was favored by commando units. Tankers also liked it, and in a cramped tank with a tight hatch to exit from, the big drum was a liability.

Correct. Churchill was damned near as bad a strategist as Hitler.

Well, Hitler broke every treaty/settlement that been made with Germany so it wouldn't have done any good. He kept on going after anything in front of the German army precisely because people like Neville Chamberlain and Daladier didn't do a damn thing when he broke those agreements. Hell, they ran to Munich and signed over the Sudetenlands at the mere threat of war from Hitler.
So Churchill was correct in not going along with his cabinet. It was full of Neville Chamberlains.

I’ve used a tommy gun, but not while smoking a cigar and wearing a top hat. I’m envious.
