yeah the whole "you always try to fix things when all i need you to do is listen" is basically a marketing point women have been told that has allowed them to create a cycle of attention and relief from complaining. in addition to the regular dopamine-addiction cycle, complaining rewires your brain for negativity
i made a thread on here a while back about this specific point. there is this mythology that if you try to solve a problem (typically that a woman is complaining about), you're "not listening" or not "empathizing" with her. the theory goes that you're dismissing her worries by not listening. this is an absolute lie, because in problem solving establishing a problem is the literal first step. this means you listen, understand, and empathize (which is why you want to help)

I like watching the train wrecks on facebook
i have an e-friend that i've known for 15+ years
her FB feed used to be her baby daddy (they've been together for like 10-ish years) and kids and typical mom stuff
for the past few months, her FB feed has been nothing but pics of her bartending, pics with her bartending co-workers (female), and drinking/partying. sprinkled in will be some graphic with text talking about finding herself and/or how to treat a woman
i have to imagine she isn't even living with her kids anymore

That hits the nail on the head.
The nature of men is to fix things. We identify a problem, and our instinct to figure it out and solve it. Logically and rationally.
Women, for some bizarre reason, don’t seem to want us to fix the problem. I mean, they really do, but they don’t want us to in the way we know how. They want us to feel the problem. To talk about it. To do a million other things rather than just straightforward fix the issue at hand.
It’s maddening

this is one thing that i legitimately cannot understand. like i posted above this entire mythology has developed that fixing the problem means you're not understanding the problem, and it's as absurd as those words sound
i understand that women vent by communication, but there has to be a healthier way to achieve that than bitching, and i have to imagine the reason why there is so much stress (requiring expression for venting) isn't even what they're bitching about.
if it's just about communication, why can't the stress be relieved by talking about a solution instead of the problem? why do we have to go over the same, simple issue in 100 ways as if we have the IQ of a piece of glassware

It's easy. You just open a bottle of wine and say "wow that sucks" or "damn, I'm sorry about that" a few times until they're done.
Whether or not you actually pay attention is irrelevant.

I have deleted all friends off of my account. Pretty much cause I’m tired of looking at what you cooked, or your kids travel ball team or subtle brags about what you have.

I keep it only because of family on the other side of the country and world. I still talk with my aunts and uncles that I will reach out to you but I have pared down my FB friends drastically about 3-4 years ago.
