There are pockets on the edge of the actual Preston Hollow neighborhood that, while not really affordable, are not out of reach for someone with a good white collar job and not much different than much of East Dallas PSF, with a much newer housing stock.
Kinda like how people say they’re moving to Lakewood when they’re west of Abrams and east of Greenville. Or M streets when they live in Vickery Place.

Rent is only 1500 a month. I plan on buying maybe end of year but want to know the areas better

Rent a short term corporate apt for a month or 2. Explore. You'll find a good fit if you want. There's a ton of options in the "fun" areas down there.

If I were buying there now I would look in the Lake Highlands and Lakewood Area. I really loved living in the lower Greenville area. It was too much fun. Uptown is fun too but a much younger crowd and plenty of noisy crowds. I lived in a Post property on McKinney Ave for a while and it was wild. Also lived at North End right by American Airlines center and lived walking to Mavs and Stars games. Then lived on Marquita Ave for a while in a duplex and really enjoyed it over there. Quieter but still near the fun. Miss Dallas a lot, had a lot of fun over there.

I lived at Jefferson at the North End in 2006-2007. Greatest apartment living year of my life. Had Mavs/Stars tickets with my dad. That was a great run.
That North End pool was a 20s singles mecca. We had BBQ & drunk volleyball every weekend. All the girls brought their friends over in droves. Loads of fun was had by all...still friends with a handful of the people tay lived there thanksnto social media.
Moved to Post Uptown afterwards. Then downtown then the damn 2008 recession crushed life.
Heard recently they're set to demo North End for a new high rise. Hate to see it go.

Uptown is for college grads and it’s honestly kind of ghetto now.
I would look for the M streets.
I am single and live in Addison. I like it plenty, but I have a gf that lives near lower Greenville.

This is the truth. Do not move into Uptown. The bars and restaurants are completely dead compared to 5 years ago. Go to lower Greenville/M Streets/Lakeland area. If you want to go to Uptown or Deep Ellum for the night just Uber.

Looking at 400k for anything decent and realistically 500k in Lakewood area. Most young people looking to buy are searching far east Dallas or Wynnewood in oak cliff.

Lower Greenville, deep ellum or the M streets.
But I mostly avoid Dallas because it's a shithole and the traffic sucks.
