2001 saw Brown Bears while hiking in Denali Natl. park Ak., remained still and downwind both times. they came and went, sow and cubs. unreal how big adult brown bears are.

2009 Shenandoah national park Virginia. a sow with cubs came into campsite, like car camping/RV campsite, noonish, flipping rocks and looking for food. wife stayed in tent, i followed at a safe distance then reported to ranger.

2010 white mountains national forest
i startled a Black Bear rubbing its back on a fence post. i froze, 20 ft away, then he took off.

2018 Big Bend National Park Texas walked up on a sow and 2 cubs off the side of the window trail less than a quarter mile from the Basin campsite. they are acorns and didn’t care at all about us, we quickly passed them watched from a safe place, reported it to rangers.

big grizz we crossed paths with about 2/3 of the way up Mt Siyeh in Glacier. He came within 25 yards to checks us out. Needless to say, we didn’t make it any further up the mountain.
