Another story, from a friend of mine that lives just outside of Kalispell, MT.:

He was on a work trip so the wife and kids were at home alone. Wife hears a clawing on the window in the middle of the night. Turns the bedside lamp on to see a boar grizzly at her window. She shoots it in the face through the window with a .44 mag. The bear ran off without a trace. They tried to track it the next day and nothing. Head like Kevlar.

ETA: this guy kept a trail camera in his yard and regularly had pictures of 1k/lb+ grizzlies just cruising by.

Heck I've seen a mother and her cubs on the course at the Atchafalaya Golf Course before. In the Smokey's we've had them on the porch of the cabin before. Leave them alone and let them walk away, if you mess with them they'll protect themselves and frick you up.

Hiked to Avalanche Lake in Glacier National Park with wife and kids last summer. Standing in awe of how beautiful it was and noticed two grizzlies hanging out on the other side. Looked like they could eat the black bears in North Louisiana.

Anyone saying they could successfully fend off a black bear attack is like saying you could successfully defend yourself from a lion or tiger attack.

If they wanna kill you, you’re dead. Several stories below of bears breaking into homes, cabins, and tents and killing people. Your only chance of survival is a firearm. One story mentions an adult male being killed by a brown bear near his cabin and an empty can of bear spray nearby. Stay strapped my friends. I’m going on a vacation to Broken Bow Lake in SE Oklahoma in a couple weeks and plan on doing some hiking. That area has one of the highest populations of black bears in OK. I’ll have my Glock 22 strapped.

I've seen a few of them here in Arkansas

almost hit one crossing the road last year. Was driving my old commute about 630am or so and saw from the distance something on the side of the road that I couldn't immediately identify, as I'm getting closer the bear gets on the highway by the shoulder and then I realized... oh hey that's a fricking bear.. and then he decided to run across the road over by the creek when I'm pretty close to him. Had to break as it scurried across the street.

Was walking to my deer stand in North La one morning and heard rustling in front of me. Turned my light on and a black bear was 20 yards away, ambling the other way. Another time I was walking a tree line on the same property when I heard what sounded similar to nails on a chalkboard. Turned my light on and two bears in separate trees were looking down at me.

I've seen two along I-20 in NE LA and a couple more in TX and dozens and dozens when I lived in NC and CO.

I thought the same thing but didn’t wanna be that guy.

The only 1,000 lb brown bears reside in AK and Russia.

I’ve spent a lot of hours in some fairly remote parts of the NC mountains fishing, and have never run across a bear there.
We did have one run across a road in front of us one day near Brevard.

The only other one I’ve seen was in the middle of Beaver Creek resort late one evening in July. Ran really close to where a bunch of kids were playing.

Cool video

Apparently, they're also vacationing in Kalispell.

Black bears do not even cause me to pause. If a black bear ever decided to attack me I have full confidence I could defend myself.

I can never really tell if TulaneLSU is doing a shtick or being serious.

no one could defend themselves against a black bear that intended to do them harm.

We have a place in Bat Cave, NC; close to Lake Lure and Hendersonville. We have bears on the property all the time. Actually, it's become kind of a pain in the arse.

We have a juvenile male right now that's causing all sorts of issues with our and our neighbors garbage. This one has somehow managed to get himself in the metal locking enclosure our neighbors have.

There was a mother with three cubs that we saw a bunch of times in the spring and a few other randoms that show up on the Ring cameras we keep at the place.

Yeah, it’s kind of crazy that I’ve never seen one locally, as much time as I’ve spent in Pisgah/Smokies.

Raccoons can open gates and carabineer clips. Sometimes it almost seems like bears follow them around to see what they're going to get into.

Not much to add. I’ve seen several from the car or in a crowded area at Yellowstone and Tetons area. They’re everywhere.

As far as “in the wild”, this guy crossed about 75 meters in front of us when we were hiking the AT. He looked at us, and kept walking.

Hell they're like fleas in Virginia. Ran into 4 just on Thursday. Makes 6 in the last 3 trail cam hanging trips. Normally see around 30 during deer season. Heres a sow with 2 cubs I ran into Thursday. She couldn't decide whether to fight or flee. Got a little hairy for a second. She's about 30 yards here.

That was amazing. Unbelievably fast on the ground and climbing that tree.
