I asked the same question a few years ago and was down voted to hell. To me the question is what is your definition of "so much ammo"? As others have stated they may go out and shoot 2-3 hundred rounds in a weekend to have fun or stay proficient with their weapon of choice. To me "so much" is an amount in excess of 1,500 rounds per caliber. While I might have close to 2,000 rounds of one its because of the bulk buys that I did. The others are closer to 1,000 rounds. Other than shooting every or most weekends I don't see a need for mass (2,000+) round stashes of ammo. If I get to the point that I run out of my current ammo stash the crap has hit the fan and I'm not target shooting anymore. If that is the case I've been lucky to survive or the others are crap shots. At that point if I'm still alive I've been able to collect "their" extra ammo to reload my mags and move forward.
If you have a major bunker type house or a true bunker out somewhere 10,000 rounds might be good for you. Average Joe citizen can only carry soooo much ammo with them and a limited number of guns. If you burn through that much ammo you should have inflected some major injuries to others that you take their ammo and if necessary their weapons. I know it's not that simple but that's my gist of not needing over 2,000 rounds per caliber.

Just imagine these guys
Bugged out in the woods, 1000 rounds of 5.56 and 1000 rounds of .45, hundreds of yards of paracord and enough MREs to survive for weeks
Then they die in their sleep because they left their CPAP back in the burbs

300rds per catridge type isn't hard to do per range session. Especially if its a new gun.

This is the hypocrisy of the gun libs. “Why would anyone need more than a hundred bullets”....”the people don’t have enough training to own a firearm”.

I just did a trigger job on my gun, and I have a few hundred rounds burning a hole in my range bag.

Do people really think we will get to a point that shooting multiple people on multiple different occasions may be necessary?
Do you really think that there is no chance that you may have to do just that, to defend yourself, your family, and your property? If you think there is a chance of having to do that, do you think it’s just going to happen for you when you need it to, without putting in the time and ammo it takes to be proficient with all the weapons you possess?

If so, why are they waiting till the last minute to buy ammo?
This I agree with. Buying ammo at the height of a hoarding frenzy is dumb.

IMO, it's 10x dumber than stocking up on toilet paper.

Not shite to be nervous about. I'm a reg guy with a family, house, job. Most would think I'm good.

Why do you fricking care how much ammo other people have
Because girls like you keep regular people from being able to buy rounds for target practice.

I kept maybe 1200 to 1500 rounds of various calibers for my different pistols during the Obama presidency. It was just a pain in the arse to go to Walmart and wait forever for some manager to come open up the ammo cabinet. I relaxed once Trump was elected. Need to rethink that now.

Can you show me where in the constitution it says we must first justify a need to exercise a right?
If you are serious, show me where I asked you to violate your rights.

Won’t do you any good right now, but LAX Ammunition, SG Ammo, and Freedom Munitions have supplied me for years now. No waiting, deliver right to your door. LAX has more free freight deals, because they are in Los Angeles, or thereabouts.

The gun/ammo industry profits on fear.
