I never had any issues getting around while Nola.

Most lived in uptown, some in lake view, some in CBD, less in old metry, and so forth. All of which are easy commutes to campus on surface streets.

No one I knew was living in Kenner, north shore, West Bank etc(for school)

I grew up in Shreveport and now live in Nola. It really depends on what you are looking for. Shreveport is less expensive, and while it has a lot of crime, it's easier to steer clear of in Shreveport in my opinion. On the other hand, Nola has a much better social scene than Shreveport.

which ones the better option for your training and will make you a better physician?

pick that one. not the one that only affects your immediate future.

Grew up in shreveport, and still family there (this is also making decision somewhat difficult). Would not live with parents though if I were to return. I have been at LSU BR for undergrad

I'm from a small town in north LA.

No regrets about going to Nola and not going to Shreveport. You know what Shreveport has to offer. If that's where and how you want you want to experience med school stay there. If you want a different life experience then choose Nola. Crime while certainly worse over the years, does get a little overblown on here(just like many other topics)

You aren't choosing a final career job here.

Shreveport.

No hurricane bullshite... Bossier Parish is minutes away and nicer. Cooler out of state options are much closer (exception of the beach).

I've been on the interstate once in the last year to get to the airport. If the old airport was still being used, it would be none.

If this person is a Louisiana resident which I assume he is he'd be retarded not to go to an in-state school.

If I could go to other schools I would. I have only been accepted into LA schools. it’s competitive enough to get into the schools here, and only exponentially harder out of state.

New Orleans. Much better clinical training and connections to give you more options for residency training. This should be a no brainer

Even in state tuition is no joke these days(much different than it used to be). Still pales in comparison to being a Out of state or private school with no scholarship. I know several people jn the 300-500k range in debt.

Why would anyone want to do anything in Shreveport?

I think you're probably splitting hairs, but as far as the crime thing goes, Shreveport is very easy to not be a victim if you aren't in the drug game and aren't involved in a violent domestic situation. Not gonna get car jacked or randomly whacked. I don't live in NOLA, but things I read hear make me wonder if this is not so there.

The Shreveport school has some excellent faculty particularly in surgical specialties and surgical sub-specialties, though that's not going to come into play for a prospective student for a while. I can say that formerly, step one scores and pass rates at the Shreveport school were very favorable, and placement in residency programs has always been very good to excellent. Class sizes are smaller in Shreveport, and there is far less farming out to outlying areas and other towns for clinical clerkships, which if you ask me, is a big advantage. Not sure with regard to the NOLA school, though I'm sure its probably comparable.

Out of State is the correct answer.

Well, I guess Shreveport is closer to the Buc-ees "on I-20...near Terrell, Texas", so there's that.

I have been accepted to shreveport and new orleans for medical school. Until recently, I was dead set on Nola. However, with all the recent news on crime, I am wondering if I should reconsider that decision. Anyone with insight would be greatly appreciated.

LSU health science, I assume?

New Orleans is objectively better. Wouldn't worry too much about the crime, you can commute. The campus is small but has private parking and is patrolled by security constantly. Also its just a couple of buildings connected by a skyway so you never actually have to deal with the homeless.

I didn't go to Shreveport but I didn't hear good things from it.
