Shreveport was kick arse until around 1985 or so. The Square was awesome and there was lots of fun on the parkway at night.

People find plenty of reasons to enjoy where they live. You’ll find it one day.

According to most people alive at the time, everywhere in Louisiana was kickass before the 80’s oil crunch, and by the early 90’s, the whole state had collapsed into some dystopian low-budget crack-head infested Mad Max scooby-doo ghost town with gumbo and potholes from which we have never recovered.

I will say that the middle class exodus has pounded Highland and west Shreveport.
Has South Highlands gone to shite? That was a pretty cool area.

I am Bon Marche, Hoppers, Slick Trax level of Baton Rouge

I used to love the city.

Used to defend it all the time.

BR is a garbage town that elects garbage. . .so the town becomes worse garbage. . .

I would never live there

I tried. They sent me back....except for Houston, but that’s just more of the same garbage. I don’t need to leave home for that. I’m working on studying for the Colorado bar in order to possibly move out there in another year.

Tbh, I’m quite comfortable in Baton Rouge when there’s no Covid. This is the worst time of year, and I cannot travel, so I’m stuck with back to school traffic, swamp arse temperatures, no bars, no live music, and no football. I enjoy it, but I can recognize it’s problems, and i volunteer quite a bit of my time trying to help BR and the surrounding area suck just a little bit less. I’m just crabby because Covid keeps f$&king up all my hobbies that make BR fun and canceled all the vacations I’d planned. I haven’t been on vacation in over 2 years and Covid forced me to eat my deposits on multiple trips I spent months saving up for, so I’m batshit, stir-crazy, and bored as hell. I’m sure I’m not alone in that at this point.

Agreed with you about it being especially lame right now.

Good luck with Colorado

That list is shite. Does not include Huntsville, AL in the top 50 fastest growing mid-size cities? List is crap.

Kingbob I've come to the conclusion I should leave br for a while
.only thing I was excited for was live music , trivia, and comedy shows. Can't do none of that now . Barely any friends here anymore. Might as well leave

Baton Rouge was awesome before you had to send your kids to private school to live there. Pre-bussing.

Shreveport is undeniably a shitehole but everyone south of I-10 seems to forget that North Louisiana had its own massive flood in MARCH 2016 . Our roads and bridges are still suffering from that but as usual we get the crumbs from the tables of BR and NOLA.

Not surprised by Shreveport, a bit surprised by BR.

The difference is the metro area of BR. BR will always have an advantage over Shreveport because BR has LSU and it’s the state capital. Those two entities supply the BR area with a lot more jobs and stability than Shreveport.

Otherwise, they are similar in a lot of ways. Both experienced big growth in the 60’s and 70’s and their populations exceeded well over 200,000 people by 1980. Since then their populations have had very little growth, and have been shrinking more recently.

Bossier and DeSoto have grown due to people leaving Shreveport, but not nearly as much as Livingston and Ascension.

And what is the first thing to be noted about the two? Horrible leadership.
