Also ironic since soccer is pretty gay and Team USA just wore their rainbow unis a week ago.

Sure. I guess I should have said that I intend to now publicly state this position to those around me instead of keeping the thought to myself as a small way to affect those in my circle of influence. I hate them as well. They are ruining our country. I think with voter integrity laws that are effective and a strong auditing system the issue would resolve itself.

There were quite a few posters who weren’t exactly rooting for USA basketball at the last Olympics but oh well

Probably. However, fact that you’re watching and rooting for any soccer team should make you feel gay.

It’s disgusting.

Article topic the day after we drum roll Paraguay was Why Americans should Fear Australias soccer team.

Can’t make it up.

These fricking guys can’t even take out Emus.

Guarantee if there were Cajuns in the same numbers as Aussies there would be no emu. There would be a memorial made by some whacko how we exterminated the entire emu population

I never really rooted against the USWNT, but I wasn't enthusiastic. When you make your identity about being a very politically loaded "you go girl, fighting for fairness" thing and you're led by some very outspoken people who don't really reflect anything about why this country is great, I think it's very reasonable to factor that in. I think it's defensible to go, "I think the US is about this and that ideal, and this team/person representing it openly disagrees with that, and I'm not terribly inclined to support them like they're representing me and my country." Someone might say "they're an American, your countryman" and I'd say - in what meaningful sense?

But the USMNT isn't really like that, nor are the vast majority of our Olympians. I don't have a purity test for pulling for US teams/athletes, but if you make your identity about something the US has never really been - say like, Rapinoe - then I think it's pretty natural to see support wane.

The people not pulling for the US in the World Cup right now aren't doing it on account of the personalities or beliefs of the team/athletes. They're doing it on account of a fundamental break between what the US mostly is and has been historically, and what they think the US should be in their narrow ideological view. To me, that's quite different.

I hoped they won but wasn’t giving them one second of time while also hoping someone on another team took out rapinoe. As violently as possible.

I'm quite aware that the NHL is notably very gay. Doesn't make me cheer for my team any less just because I disagree with their messaging, though.

The guy is a philosophy professor who writes about sports fandom. His thing is to overanalyze fandom.

Frankly, I enjoy watching great teams and great games. The U.S. soccer team was absolutely fantastic in its first game. They were patient, methodical, and very dangerous whenever an opportunity arose. That team is easy to watch and cheer for.

Every year that a republican is president, the "unbiased" MSM writes articles like this during patriotic events. This, while their political heros openly root for other countries.

As someone who actively pulled against the women’s national team due to Rapinoe and company, I didn’t feel bad. At all.
However, that was due to the player and the team and their demands of equal pay and kneeling.
Not to leadership of our country.

I rooted against the US womens team when they had all those pinko communists. They were anti-Americans.

Absolutely not. You should be embarrassed for rooting against them.

I love how an example of forced compliance is a "gotcha".

Read what MLB is doing to players that don't bow down to the rainbow mafia.

But remember, if you push back, you are a fascist in a cult.
