The author accidentally disproves his own argument with that stupid analogy.
If your friend gets a promotion, normal people don't respond by hoping he fails because they're upset with some of his life choices.
They want him to succeed while also recognizing his flaws.
That's actually a much better description of patriotism than the one the author intended.

Hey, a lot of folks quit pulling for the women's soccer team almost exclusively due to their politics.....I think most of us are a bit guilty of the - if it lines up with my views I can live with it.

In 2023, I was happy with the domino effect (getting rid of Vlatko and Rap, and creating a teachable moment for youth soccer about thinking you're smarter than the coach).

Or, it had way more to do with several of them being loud outspoken CU next Tuesdays about the supposed pay gap and everything else. Couple that with the dyke Rapinoe and others pushing for trans shite around kids, and yea you aren't getting support.
It wasn't just because they are liberal. I'd wager a majority of the men's side leans that way too but you see the almost universal support they are getting

Yea, these people just create problems in their head. The media talks about how bad America is and how embarassed we are for the political climate. Meanwhile all the fans are having a blast and seeing first hand how awesome America is. They realize the media has been lying and i expect international tourism to boom after this.

People didn't stop supporting the U.S. Women's National Team because they were Team USA. They stopped supporting them because many of the team's most visible personalities seemed to go out of their way to act embarrassed by, resentful of, and openly critical of the country whose name was across their chest.

Fair. People don’t usually mind athletes having opinions. They mind athletes wearing “USA” across their chest while acting like representing the USA is some kind of burden.
