Since race politics have resulted in an unfilled director position and the airport's location is on the opposite side of the metro area's growth....why not? The board for such an airport would be controlled by Livingston Parish, not East Baton Rouge.

There's still land available in Livingston on I-12 between Walker and Satsuma that would be convenient to both Baton Rouge and Hammond. The location alone would bring more passenger traffic to the airport than what BTR currently sees. Also more space for a bigger facility with a mid field terminal.

Who wants an airport rigth next to them?

I thought this is why 90% of airports are in shittier parts of cities.

If Gravy sees this he’s going to have a massive heart attack.

Livingston Parish south of I-12 isn't exactly Beverly Hills.

Err no.

Btw, Orleans controls MSY although it's in Jefferson.

But we do not need to waste tax dollars on an airport when we already have one.

I know you're used to trailers, but you can't just pick up and move an airport.

This is actually a damn good idea...but for the traffic on I-12 coming into BTR in the morning and traffic in the evening. Landing and getting to meeting an AM meeting would be impossible and catching an afternoon flight would be impossible.

Sell commuter flights to Ryan Field to cut down on traffic.

They don’t want new high schools built in the LP much less allow an airport of that size.

So who’s going to cough up the billion $ it will cost to build one to compete with BR?

Would be nice!! Alternatively they should expand--I suspect in the next couple of years they will have the opportunity to add airlines or at least more flights as gate fees at MSY will likely significantly increase as they try to pay for operating the new terminal.

If SWA put 10 flights a day it would be very cool.

Gate fees at MSY arent going up much. SWA has asked for 3 additional gates at the new MSY plus other airlines are also planning to add some flights.

MSY paid for mostly with more expensive parking and vendor fees.

No need to compete with BR if you move the airport like OP suggested.

Not sure there's enough benefit to even do that though. Plenty of people in Gonzales will simply go to MSY anyway even today.

Livingston Parish is trashy as hell. It’s not much better off than NBR. Nobody wants to fly in or out of br no matter where it’s located.
