Livingston Parish is trashy as hell. It’s not much better off than NBR. Nobody wants to fly in or out of br no matter where it’s located.

Livingston might have some white trash but it sure as hell isn't NBR. Go compare the crime rates and schools.

I like the BR airport. It's nice showing up an hour before my flight and not having to wait in a line.

I’m sure there’s loads of money lying around for new airports

Exactly. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I don’t see anything wrong with the current airport.

You’re a frickng moron. I fly in and out of BR two or three times a month and have for 30 years. I can pull in, park, ease through security and board my plane all in 30 minutes.

I remember those days of flying commercial. You should look into chartering a Gulfstream. Best decision I’ve ever made.

Yeah until you’re flying in on a red eye, look out your window and see a huge klan rally burning crosses.

Years ago they talked about building a larger international Airport than New Orleans International.
I do not know if it was cost or being to close to New Orleans International killed that idea.

15 relatively traffic free minutes from current airport to downtown. Move to Livingston kills efforts to attract events (namely conferences)to BR

Locating an airport downwind from a landfill makes sense for LA.

Let me clarify, who’s going to cough up the billion $ to build an airport in LP that will be on scale with BTR?

This time has passed, but a DFW type airport with access to 12, 10, and 55 would have been a game changer in the 70s.

They don’t want new high schools built in the LP much less allow an airport of that size.

Yet the median income of LP is 8k more than east baton rouge as a whole. The poverty rate is also 5% lower than EBR.

Cant imagine how bad NBR would be if South Baton Rouge didnt prop it up.

I would expect you would see a median income about 20k lower and a poverty rate 10% higher.

Actually it's not a new school, but a large expansion; however, Live Oak just built an entirely new school several years back.

The muckity mucks in LP have been buying up property around where the proposed airport would be for years. The last I heard was the plans for it were scrapped after the flood of 2016 because the land for the airport is too low

Yep an international airport in Springfield or Ponchatoula, would have been ideal.

Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Northshore, even MS Gulf Coast, would benefit and have paid. State has never thought big like that nor will it, New Orleans ran Delta out and its impact on Atlanta speaks for itself. Anywhere around that location would have been huge, with the MS river, rail connections, and I-10 converging, at the very least a hub city for 2-3 airlines. New Orleans for air travel was the destination for South/Latin american flights to US, but Miami took that and ran, our location is still better.

NBR is dead, no saving it move the airport save somewhere else before it dies as well.

No matter where you put it, or how much you spend, it will always be a minor secondary Airport. It's way too close to MSY to ever be anything more than that.

Here’s a novel idea. Just shut the fricker down. Nothing wrong with people having to commute and hour from NOLA.
