Should police body cams be on at all times while the officer is on duty?

It's a source of debate right now here in Louisville. When the police and National Guard shot a guy out after curfew the other night, they (LMPD) deliberately did not have their body cams turned on. Thankfully there was video in the area to help discern what happened but it ended up being the last straw for the police chief who was fired as a result for giving the order to not have them turned on. When the plain clothed officers who executed the no-knock warrant in the Breonna Taylor case, they also did not have their body cams on. There was no video in the area and its become a huge issue in the case.
The argument against them being on during the time the officer is on duty is that they can capture privileged conversations and is an invasion of the officer's privacy.
On the flipside, lack of transparency seems to be one of the larger issues that people have with the police and it could help with that. Especially in officer-involved shootings or when accused of police brutality.
Thoughts?

Yes but they need to be able to turn them off if they are using the bathroom or having sex.

Yes not only to hold them accountable, but to prove they acted correctly as well.

Yes, except for when they malfunction.

I don’t understand why they wouldn’t. If they’re not doing anything wrong, why wouldn’t you have it on? It seems like only negatives can come from it

Yes. On all the time. Sorry but your bathroom trips are going to be recorded.

I would like to know the storage requirements this would require.

Would you record what you do every second you're at work? I doubt a 10 hour recording of driving around is necessary

Except for her

Pretty frickin' pointless to have a police camera if they don't keep it on.

For what it's worth, I understand not having the cams that are on all of the time for legitimate privacy reasons (i.e. the bathroom). I'm not talking about those per se.
I'm talking more so about you're rolling up to a scene and you don't turn it on. Or, where our police chief, purposefully told the whole force not to have their cams on while policing protests.

Couldn’t hurt?
Will that make BLM happy? Of course not.

During execution of duties, yes.
Just like airline pilots, sterile rules for discussions. If you are on break, turn it off, talk about whatever you want, but back on after break is over.

Yes

Yes. Keeps them accountable to do their job right and defend themselves when they get falsely accused of wrongdoing.

I think we all should have cameras, with GPS tracking. You get your govt issued camera around 6 when you could maybe do or say something racist. You log your day to day interactions with Shayne your local barista all the way to your office when you and your work wife/husband go at it in the storage closet.

Body cams have helped reduced the number of complaints of police officers. Once people see the footage they tend to drop the police complaint. There’s actually a benefit for the officers. It’s just the slim minority who it’ll hurt.
