Should mentally handicapped be allowed to have kids?

This seems like a terrible question but there is a guy in my apartment building who is very nice, but I believe has autism. I was getting into the elevator and he introduces me to his new fiancé, who also has some kind of mental handicap. Although I’m happy for the guy, isn’t it kind of wrong for them to have kids because chances are the children will have the same problems and likely be a financial burden for the government? I believe they have wealthy parents so I guess they can foot the bill but how long can that last? Maybe I’m just a terrible person but I couldn’t help but think about it.

No they shouldn’t be allowed to. I mean not even trying to sound rude, and I hope they all are happy, but there’s just multiple reasons why it’s not a good idea at all.

Must be tough for the parents to have to explain to their daughter why she has to get an iud. I honestly don’t know another way from preventing pregnancy if they’re living together.

Vasectomy or iud I guess. But I kind of feel like a dick thinking about forcing that.

The problem is where do we draw the line? At what point is "too" handicapped to have children? Do we prevent people who are diagnosed with depression because there's a heritability component? Schizophrenics? Downs?

No different than people with hereditary diseases having offspring. Just because it's more readily seen as a physical appearance doesn't make it worse.
