Not that I would ever choose this, but fair is fair.

If the man does not want the baby and the woman chooses not to abort then that is her choice. Once she's pregnant, the man has no choice in this matter. I get that the trick to all this is to not get her pregnant in the first place, but accidents happen. Many women get pregnant solely for the money they know they're going to get from the man. A man should indeed be able to opt out of this and if the woman decides to continue forward with the pregnancy she does so with the understanding that she is acting on her own and should solely support the child.

They do. No one is forcing you to be a parent except yourself. I've never seen a virgin pulled of the street and slapped with child support and a 3 month old.

When you decided to climax inside of a woman you must now deal with the consequences. It is very clear. The rules aren't changed on you midway through the game, you know going into it what can happen and what your role can and will be.

I'm sorry if I don't have any sympathy for someone who gets a woman pregnant but doesn't want to deal with the child. I don't give a shite about "equality" when you had your chance in the whole ordeal and you chose poorly.

right

but the woman isn't accepting that responsibility, she has an out, the man doesn't

Right, so the man should be even more vigilant. If you're not willing to accept the possibility of being a father, you better use birth control AND not cum in your girl. You have no one to blame but yourself if you end up knocking a girl up. Birth control + condoms + pulling out = you're not going to be a father in a million years. Any combination of two of those three will be extremely effective. Don't like condoms? Get the girl on birth control and pull out.

But if the girl's on birth control and you're cumming in her, it's time to accept responsibility if the girl decides to keep the baby.

Depends on the relationship. Fatherhood from a one night stand? Absolutely.

I have no problems with abortion being legal, but a "legal" abortion is stupid. Someone will need to take care of that child if it is actually born. "Legally aborting" doesn't change that.

I agree.

A middle ground might be: “Men can put on legal record before the woman’s abortion ‘time limit’ is over that they do not wish to have this kid”

This could absolve the men of a portion (not all) of child care costs or something and give the woman something to consider when weighing the option to abort or not. This would also mean the man loses any rights they have over the child if the woman keeps it.

Once again I will agree to disagree with you. I understand what you are saying, I just can't get behind it.

I think men need to do a better job of educating themselves. Same thing I would preach to a woman.

Anytime I opt to have sex with a woman, I have to understand that this may result in a pregnancy. Whether I have been clipped, whether I have a condom on, whether she has been on the pill for 3 years, a chance exist.

If a man or woman cannot accept that, they should walk away.

Besides there are already too many men choosing to opt out of Fatherhood. Part of the reason this country is declining in a lot of areas.

If the mother can abort her responsibilities to that child without any input from the father, it's fair that the father can abandon his responsibilities as well (child support, etc.).

That's a realistic debate over reproductive rights IMO.

Agreed.

If you're having sex, you either accept the possibility of fatherhood, or you double up on birth control methods. Period.

Yeah, that's biology for you. Deal with it. Take it up with your creator, if you believe in one.

People will downvote, but you are a 100% right.

I wonder how many people would get behind a guy who has 10+ kids but chose to terminate his parenting rights on all of them.

This is true.

And I know abortion haters will hate what I'm about to say, but if the man puts on legal record BEFORE the acceptable abortion "period" is over for the woman that he doesn't want to have this kid and is absolved of a portion of the costs, maybe all these women would more strongly consider the abortion route.

I disagree, because the outcomes are inherently different. If the mother aborts the child, there's no child that needs support. If the father opts out, there's a child who is going to go unsupported (at least partially, since there's no father taking responsibility for the life he brought into the world).

The child's rights should outweigh the father's rights to opt out.

The bottom line is that if you don't want to be a father, you should double up on birth control. You're an idiot if you don't.

Yeah this would suck badly.

Which is why I think just a portion of responsibility could be removed, but not close to all.

It just gives the woman more reason to consider abortion …which is going to be very unpopular which makes this moot

But I don't think this would work anywhere but an homogeneous Nordic country with strict population/immigration laws.

The laws are a consequence of biology. A man doesn't carry the child, so he shouldn't have any control over whether the child is aborted. He has enough control over the use of birth control and where his cum ends up that it's pretty damn fair, actually.

Versus 18 years of forced financial obligations on the father.

Seems a bit disproportionate.

That's one of the reasons women have a legal advantage. Many of the programs and rules benefiting women are there to encourage her to have the child rather than abort it.
