ne of NOLA's problems with growth is that it's geographically impossible to do further outward sprawl like other cities can. (Not without pissing off enviros anyway) Northshore exists but you can only do so much with it.

New Orleans doesn’t have the economy to support the infrastructure within its current footprint let alone greater expansion.

Lafayette has plenty of land, but has the same problem as New Orleans: not enough economic growth to support its sprawl. The economy there has stalled completely with the collapse of the offshore oil industry. Also, Lafayette is too far from New Orleans to act as a suburb.

I remember the Green Acres episode where Mr Douglas stops by the general store where Sam Drucker, Mr. Ziffel, Mr. Kimball, and Newt Kiley are holding a meeting on how to get more businesses to come to Hooterville.

After considering holding the Dem and Rep pres nominating connventions in Hooterville, and having the Olympics be held in Hooterville, they finally decide to have a Hollywood studio produce a movie there.

TBH it's a better option than any other city in Louisiana. What other cities are you gonna pick? Baton Rouge? Shreveport? Monroe? All of those cities are straight trash.

Not a day goes by when I don’t say to myself that if Lafayette had the the Pacific Ocean instead of the Achafalayya Swamp then I have no reason to go the Cali for vacation.

Lafayette is a city designed by Lafayette people (who are extremely unique people) for Lafayette people. It’s why they think it’s the greatest thing ever, and people outside of there really couldn’t care less to visit nor if it exists or not.

As soon as people realize that the sooner we can move on as a state.

Tourism for what? I mean don't get me wrong I like my hometown and all but there's nothing to see here. Besides tourists are annoying.

No. The state needs Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and Lake Charles to pick up the economic slack that has come with the steady decline in New Orleans over the past 60 years.

Lol...Lafayette needs to concentrate on getting decent infrastructure in place before anything. No loops, parkways..traffic always sucks.
