I was thinking a lot of the tier 1 states have mu;multiple cities to visit.
Cali: LA and San diego, San Fran
Texas: Austin, dallas, houston

Should Lafayette try to boos their economy and be more tourism friendly ?

Lafayette’s a fine little town, but what is it’s draw for tourists? Airboat tours? Fais do do? It’s an excursion, at best.

One of NOLA's problems with growth is that it's geographically impossible to do further outward sprawl like other cities can. (Not without pissing off enviros anyway) Northshore exists but you can only do so much with it.

Does Lafayette have enough land that can handle a sprawl? Does any city in LA currently, at that rate.

New Orleans isn't even a city the size of the ones you're comparing to.

They have some nice festivals in the spring, but other than that, I got nothing.

Festival International brings in quite a few people from all over the country and internationally.

Visit Lafayette and take a private bus tour to Erath to see where True Detective season one was filmed.

I don't think the main limiting factor for any Louisiana city is space. To grow a city you need people. To attract people you need good jobs. To create good jobs you need to attract companies. To attract companies you can't have corrupt politicians looking so line their pockets at every turn. Thus, Louisiana will never have a city the size of the ones mentioned in the OP.

TBH it's a better option than any other city in Louisiana. What other cities are you gonna pick? Baton Rouge? Shreveport? Monroe? All of those cities are straight trash.
