Mandeville near the causeway, it’s worth the extra 15 minutes commute time. Wife & kids will love it and no need for private school.

15 minutes extra? Are you going 100 over the causeway?

Confused a bit. If you work at Tulane do they require you to live in Orleans Parish in order to attend the good public schools? If so, then Orleans might make sense. Everybody is right about Old Metairie as if you live there you are basically in New Orleans and your property taxes, services and safety is much enhanced. The drawback would be you almost have to go private school. The Catholic Schools are reasonably priced.

I think unless you have $750K it’s going to be tough to find a decent house uptown or in Lakeview. There are a lot of young professionals in Lakeview with 2.5 kids. St. Dominics is a fine school but the property taxes and services are a deal killer IMO.

It doesnt matter if you work at Tulane for not...If you want your kids to attend an Orleans Parish Charter/Magnet School you must live in Orleans Parish

I second the other poster that mentioned renting for six months to get your bearings in a new city.

However, if you choose to buy right away, live in Uptown (near actual Tulane, not the med school), Irish Channel, Garden District or in Lakeview if you want Orleans Parish. Metairie is also a good option if you want to live in Jefferson Parish. Don't live on the Westbank and don't live on the Northshore unless you like spending lots of time in your car.

20 minutes at 70mph

He can be at Tulane in roughly 40-45 minutes from a house in Mandeville.

With zero traffic, zero fog, zero high winds and no accidents. Mandeville to Mid City is 45 minutes away like three times a year.

And that would have to be coming from old Mandeville and getting to I-10 at 6:00AM.
People are funny with their commute estimates.

Quickly dilutes as it moves south along FL “west coast” (Gulfside). By Tampa, the Cuban cuisine picks up steam and is very good. Plus the midwest snowbird blandness really hurts LA style seafood prep excellence.

My morning commute from Mandeville is typically under 55 minutes leaving my house at 6:45, and I go all the way into the WHD. And my house is 15 minutes from the causeway. Sure fog days suck, but they happen a handful of times a year.

Midwest people’s taste in food is absolutely garbage. The only thing they know about is cheese.

That’s honestly not bad. What if there’s a wreck on the causeway?

I can think of only a handful of times my commute has been majorly impacted by a wreck in the 6 years I've lived over here. But you can always go through Slidell if there's major issue on the causeway. Adds about 15 extra miles for me, but only another 5 minutes since it's all interstate.

Bruh I'm gonna let you think for a minute about why a longer route with a higher average speed might be faster than a shorter one with a lower speed.
