Nah. Less competition in the workplace for competent labor and service providers is better for us

We had a class in HS called bachelor survival. It taught us the basics of cooking, cleaning, sewing, how to dress for certain events, proper dinner/date etiquette, etc. Looking back, it was a pretty solid class.

I am all for high schools having a mandatory class on opening a bank account, credit, getting a loan, opening an account at the electric company, credit card use and misuse, etc. Kids need to learn these skills.

I am not for teaching kids to mow.

I am for teaching good trades in high school. Everybody is not fit for college.

It is off the issue, but I bet you had no problem with people of his age going to Iraq in 2003. Then saw many of his peers returning in caskets, while you made no personal sacrifice except acting patriotic and getting a tax cut.

But back to the issue, high schools should gear their education to suit you personally, since you pay taxes.

This may just be one of the better OweO posts. Even though it's a dear Facebook, it does have some fuel for a rant though it never materialized.

OP could have condensed it to: I fired my lawn guy for missing a spot. What's with these kids nowadays?

A for effort.
D for efficiency.
C for clarity.

Hopefully one of the skills taught in that class is how to get to the fricking point.

You are helping me prove my point. I could have used a "how to say what you want without writing a fricking novel" course.

We had something like this in school. What I'm shocked about is more how kids have no idea how to cook.

I heard a coworker tell me she had to walk her college aged daughter through boiling water. She had no clue how to boil water.

My 8 year old knows what it means to boil water. (No she doesn't do it unsupervised)

And that's the thing. Park of growing up is making mistakes and learning from them, but to a certain degree, there are some mistakes that shouldn't be made.. consistently.

You want to co-write a book with me? We can title it "shite You Would Have Learned If You Had Good Parenting".

Yes, a long with basic economics and a real civics class not taught by some semi-retarded football coach.

I teach a Life Skills once a week to my High School Students.

Last Month was learning about Autos and how to care for them and ways to not get in bad deals

This month we are doing rental agreements for homes and utility payments.

Next month is banking and savings.

you started out talking about teaching life skills in school and ended by talking about a phone call where you fired a kid and didn't explain why...maybe try some adderall before telling a story on here next time

He sounded surprised and just paused as if he was waiting for me to tell him more.. maybe a reason why I didn't need his services

I would have told him I wasn't happy and why before just canning him. If after that he still kept screwing up then finding someone else would be a logical next step.

But to answer your original question

Should High Schools Have Some Type Of Life Skills Curriculum?

the problem is that half the teachers need lessons in this area themselves.

Evidently he’s never heard the true test of someone’s character is when nobody’s watching. I’m not surprised though a lot of people walking around these days don’t have any home training.
