Of course they are, but most can never make the connection between voting for the property tax du jour and increases in their rent.

It's all small details tbh.

The much simpler answer is nobody should be voting "yes" on any new taxes. They have enough of our money. They need to get better at spending it responsibly.

No. Property owners pass along the cost of that tax to their renters. Homeowners... That is a different story.

That's wildly speculative.

Absolutely. I would go even further and say that property owners votes should be weighted differently.

This moves farther away from democracy and straight toward oligarchy.

Bill Gates would likely have a million votes to your one in this scenario.

The fact that some of you are seriously advocating for something as absurd as this is just another example of why our country is so fricked

Not really - what’s fricked is like Baton Rouge and the CATs bus system - that shite passes by people who are not property owners and don’t even pay to ride the bus - I grew up on public transportation so I don’t have a problem with it but it’s quicker for me to walk to my destination than use CATS

Property owners aren’t deciding anything when they are out numbered by non-property owners

And thank you also.

Homeowners need to be protected. Property barons need to be monitored.

Well I guess we should send the resumes of everyone to Tigerdroppings poster Unobtanium to decide if they require the prerequisite level of intelligence to vote.

None of that has anything to do with your original arguement that property owners shouldnt be able to vote regarding property taxes.

But I'm not surprised you've made such a logical leap considering you are stupid enough to have that take in the first place.

Maybe we should go back to not letting women vote if this is how your kind thinks

I’m pretty sure it was Thomas Jefferson who said that only property owners should be able to vote because if you allow those who don’t own property to vote, they will vote to take property away from those own do own property.

He was a visionary.

A government employee that owns property is not a net taxpayer because their money came from taxes. What they own is actually from taxpayers and should not even be considered theirs. They should not have any votes either.

So military, fire fighters, policemen, teachers, and etc. who are usually pillars of a community shouldn't get a vote? frick off and that's coming from someone who has never been employed by a government entity.

Pretty much this. Whether you rent or own, you still wind up paying property taxes. It’s just a question of paying it via mortgage/escrow or paying it as a component of rent.

People over the age of 80 shouldn’t be able to vote on anything because they will be dead soon

I said I agreed with

being allowed to vote on property tax issues be contingent on property ownership

That means property owners should be the ones voting on property tax issues - who is stupid?

Can I vote in any state where I own property? Never really looked into it, but I would guess not unless I have established residence.
