But in practice, the term “Arabic numerals” is most often used to apply to Eastern Arabic cultures and those are truly a distinct symbol for the meaning of each. So there is really no way to distinguish in the poll from the ignorant and the informed responses. They just all get labeled as ignorantly Islamophobic is a sophomoric joke.

See this response?
Is Supermoto dumb?
Maybe, but his response was the exact knee-jerk anti-Islamic response the poll was expecting of many Americans.

It's not the poll's fault these people are dumb it uneducated. This isn't really a gotcha poll. Anyone with half a brain should know what "Arabic numerals" refers to.
You seem to be under some delusion that they had to go far to find dumb people. The average American is dumb as hell. They had no idea what Arabic numerals meant, but went with their anti Muslim answer anyways. That's on them, not the polling people.

Sesame Street has been indoctrinating our youth with their pro-Islam propaganda for years. They must be stopped!

I used to use /s for sarcasm. Then $$ now I'm being told TyPiNg LiKe tHiS is how it's done, but on a phone with shitty autocorrect that's too hard.

Even worse, he thinks some of the 56% are people who understood Arabic numerals are what we use, but these people thought Arabic in this context was eastern Arabic numbers which are apparently different. That's some incredible spin.

I haven't heard anyone refer to them as "Arabic Numerals" in probably over twenty years. I'm sure I was taught that that is what they are, but I honestly didn't remember that when I first opened this thread. I bet I could ask 50 college educated people that I know and 40 of them would probably say the same thing.
Not knowing/remembering that we use Arabic numerals doesn't make anyone dumb. It was a typical gotcha question the poll used to try to prove a point.

Yes it does, but that's not the point.
Not knowing what they are and then giving an answer anyways because oh no it's Muslims makes them dumb. No one said they couldn't ask what Arabic numerals were.

Probably would have gotten a similar result if they had asked about teaching Chinese numerals instead.

Are you going to continue to miss the point here?
Ignoring the obvious difference here that Chinese numerals are not what we all use on a daily basis.

Good. We should also put a stop to the plight of women in this country. Help end women’s suffrage

Well, that’s the fallacy of the poll.
Nah. The poll shows just how absolutely idiotic most Americans are, which is a fact we need to expose.
56% of respondents means this idiocy extends across ages and political parties.

Wow I typed it instead of or. I'm basically bed ridden I'm so retarded.

Most Americans will also freak out if you tell them their epidermis is showing.

What point am I missing? That there are a lot of people that don't know/remember a trivial piece of information?
Calling someone dumb for not knowing something trivial is well, dumb.

It reminds me of when Jay Leno or Jimmy Kimmel would ask random people questions like this.
