Should all children receive a trophy or medal in sporting events even if they lose?

Up to a certain age, yes imo. (like 7-8)
ps - to clarify - Im talking about a participation trophy with the actual champs getting a larger trophy.

This whole everyone get a trophy culture was started by the Big Trophy Lobby in the 90s. We are playing right into their hands.

I'll never forget the feeling I had when my team lost the championship when I was 9. I had to watch other kids get a trophy. That made me wanna better myself and try to win one the following year.
And I did.

However, when they are 4-6 year old playing T-ball the only ones who really care about wins and losses are parents anyway so who cares. From experience of officiating youth sports most kids that age have no idea who won/loss anyway.
I've also found that most parents who actually cared who won/loss a T-ball game are the ones who are living through their kids or somehow think their kid is the second coming of Ken Griffey Jr.
So I see no issue with a 4-6 year old getting a trophy. At that age let them have fun and hopefully learn basic concepts about the game and teamwork.
Once they get older I don't agree with it as they need to start accepting that you will have to handle defeat in life once in a while.

Kids shouldn't be playing sports anyway, only 0.00001% of them will use those skills at a professional level. We should be teaching our children to change oil filters and weld, not kick and catch balls.

Both of my kids play sports and I do not agree with everyone getting a trophy.

There's a happy medium somewhere between "you're all special snowflakes" and "second place is just the first place loser."
